| Allegedly there's one in my burnt-up 700R4 sitting out back. I might go dig it out of the snowy scrap pile, pull the servo and grab some pics. |

Servo swap = overdrive shift at WOT. Nothing to do with the converter. |

| You only need to change torque convertor to match the rpm range of your engine. So if you havent changed camshafts, then no need. The vette servo is just a piston that applies pressure to the band in the trans. The bigger the piston, the more pressure is applied. Vettes got a slightly larger piston then other cars. There are even larger servo's out there as well. Those are usually billet and $$. The actual vette servos are pretty cheap. Another common mod is to put in a vette tv sleeve, which gives you full throttle OD. I'd stay away from this. I put one in, and am going to put the old one back. You'll find that at certain highway speeds when you go to pass the trans won't shift down because of it. And if you think about it, just why would you need full throttle in OD? You can pretty much max out any road around here in 3d gear. |

Aaron, explained in my post, but the servo is actually the piston thats under the round cover on the side of the trans. The 4th gear lock in overdrive is the tv sleeve. The tv cable hooks to a piston which slides in the tv sleeve, which slides into the valve body with a few other springs and parts.
There's actually a groove on the outside of the sleeve. The length of the groove determines when 4th gear is disengaged. I think stock is like 3/4 but theres some variance. The groove goes by a port and dumps the hydraulic pressure to 4th gear when everything lines up. |

| My bad. My trans must have had the 'vette TV then, cause it would shift. I always figured it was the servo doing it. |

That will work. They make several different length pins. You may have to grind that one down to get the right clearance.. Too tight and the band will drag on the drum.
You putting a shift kit in? Because some kits come with the vette servo. |

So can someone explain to me what good having more pressure applied to the band is? Is it to handle more power before slipping or something?

Yes the more pressure applied to the band increases its holding power. Also as was mentioned in the ad, if you tighten the clearances up it will take less time for the band to engage, speeds up the shifts involving the band.
As far as I know you can put the vette servo in the v/6 trans. Although that may actually be 2 steps stronger then what you have, ande probably overkill. I'd almost bet that the v/6 servo is even smaller then the v/8 camaro servo. |

| On the side of the trans there's a round cover. You need to push in on the cover and remove the keeper thats around the outside. Then pull the cover off. It may just spring off. Inside that is the servo. There are various springs and pieces in there. You'll want to keep everything in order. Swap out the pieces you got new and reinstall. You may need to grind that pin to get the proper clearance. I forget just how to measure though. You may have to search tgo or team chevelle for a post on that. I think you just compress the whole works and measure how much it moves though. You don't want it too tight or it will drag the band on the drum. |
