So I got my bird home from work tonight, didnt make it into the garage, so I was locking it up outside....
I lock both doors (by hand) then hop out of the car, realize I left my wipers in the on position so I turned the ignition on... blah blah... somehow I got the keys locked in the car with the wipers going full blast, and the key on. Embarassed
So I have nothing to do but watch my wipers slowing down while my battery dies.

You could try heating some water or something to unfreeze the lock...just don't heat the window up to fast!

THat sucks...although I will admit that I once locked my keys in my car work...while the car was running. Embarassed

I've done that also at home warming the car up (prior to remote start alarm). I started the car, left the door open and stepped on the brake - this made the alarm lock the door. I got out and shut the door - oops, door's shut & locked and the motor is running. I carry a spare door key on a different key ring now.

I did try the hot water on the lock, but it still wont budge for some reason, I never use the locks manually because I have a keyless entry, so it could be broken for all I know...
Im super glad it isn't running tho, I just filled the tank!

You're fighting against the relays holding the lock actuators in the locked position. Mine are the same way, very hard to turn when armed, then the ice is probably compounding the problem.

That sucks dude.

One of my old Fairlanes the ignition switch was so worn, you could start it and pull the key out. I did that, ran back in the house to grab something, and left the keys in the house and drove off. Got to my destination and realized what I'd done, LOL!

Go in through the hatch. That lock is usually in better shape.

Alot of old cars allowed you to pull the key so you could open the trunk while the car was running. I've actually got 2 cars here that we havent got any keys for at all lol! Dad drives his 66 all over.. no key.. and the 63 impala ... again no key.. and my 64 velle was the same way. You could actually start and stop the motor without a key, as long as you didnt turn the ignition back to lock.

My ignition key is like that on my impala, and after you leave em at home once and learn ur lesson, it is nice. Especially since I have forged pistons so its nice to be able to lock it while its warming up.[/quote]

I had a friend whose father always broke the key off in the ignition lock cylinder. Never had to worry about forgetting Laughing I don't know what he did about the door locks.

That's why I'm glad I have cast pistons... I don't even have to lock it! Very Happy

lol... I think he was talking about the forged slugs knocking about, unti they warm up, and actualy become round...

(Warning...science talk...)

Forged pistons are actualy slightly oval when they are cold, because of the way the grains in the metal run. Once they warm up, the expansion makes the piston round. So when they are cold, there can be a bunch of knocking about, and piston slap.

(see..I understood what he was saying!)
