According to the Standard Catalog of Firebird 1967-2002 (another of the goodies I got with my T/A):
"The base ('91) Firebird's Sport Appearance Package included fog lights in the fascia and carried the aero look to the sides with distinctive lateral skirting (AKA ground effects)."
It also states that the LO3 was an option on the base model.

| ground effects became available on base birds mid year 89 after the success of the "firebird XS" and other regional models where you could get GFX on base birds. early 89 you had to live in a certain market to get it. my sister's late 89 2.8L car was one such equipped base model bird. T-Tops, GFX, Power windows, AC, PDL, ...and a 2.8 with an auto. it was slow as hell. |
