It's OK if it doesn't go up and down as long as the mast is still there. I bought a repair kit for mine and found that the mast was broke off. Duh

shave it.

mount a solid mast antenna under your dash pad. i have great reception... and an ugly hole in my fender. but someday I'll finish that up.

I, like tony have a big wire loop under my dashboard and get great reception. But I, UNLIKE tony. have already shaved mine and it looks sweet Cool

What did you use for the wire loop and how did you attach it to the antenna cable?

The worst part is I took the old damaged fender off and I am now waiting to find SOMETHING to install before I put the new fender back on. I cannot believe how impossible it has been to find a friggin power antenna. I would like to stay with the OEM stuff because I would like to keep it original and I don't really want to run a new antenna wire to the stereo but at this point I am ready to bail on that idea. I cant even put the friggin hood back on it yet.

One of the techs at Mobile Radio is pretty resourceful. They may have something that will work or find something that will. No guarantees, but it won't hurt to try. Their store is down by Auto Center Way on 1st St. If you go down there, you may want to take your piece with you, IIRC ours are pretty unique in size compared to most. Talk to Jamie, he did most of the work on my car. Their phone is 377-0769.
