Today at work we got an urgent email to pull all Pennzoil 10-40 quarts from the shelves immediately. The only info we were given was it is "defective" and replacement oil will be shipped to us. No batch numbers were given, just the sku number. If you have any in your car that you purchased in the last couple of months, better drain it now. Better safe than sorry.
By the way, this is NO JOKE. It's REAL. |

| Thanks for the warning. I don't use it, but defect oil could be a disaster for an engine. |

Well I hate to start an argument, but pennzoil according to all the UOA's and VOA's I've seen is an extememly good oil. Pennzoil utilizes Group II base oils produced from the Chevron Isosyn technology. And Chevron along with Mobil produces most of the oil base stock for the entire world. Any dino oil ran past it's shear point will fail and create sludge. That's why the switch to full synthetics. There are no left over extra molecules to create sludge and deposits. They start with an empty can and engineer it to be almost the perfect oil. Myself, I'm running full synthetic German Castrol 0-30.
Do some reasearch and then let me know what you think of pennzoil.

| Just read on another board that this may not be a penziol only thing. Seems the governments screwin around with the specifications again. 05 and newer cars require GF4. Oil currently is GF3. A guy from another store posted that they're starting to recall all the GF3 oil's now. He also said to expect prices of dino oil to go up to $2.50 a quart soon. |

Well I've not seen any news of even the pennzoil recall on the oil forum I have linked to other than my post there. I wonder if it's a base stock problem, but why ONLY the quart containers of this oil? Do you have a link to the other board I can go and read about it at?
And if dino oil is going up to $2.50, then I can't see any reason not to go ahead and go full synthetic and get a good 15 micron filter for an extended oil change interval and save yourself some money in the process. |
