Well, i finally have a job again, and the camaro is in need of a oil change. It seems to burn quite a bit of the 5-30 synthetic i have in it, so I figure that the previous owner didn't get the cylinders honed when he rebuild the engine.

What oil would ya'll suggest?

Some synthetics burn pretty easy. Mobil 1 seemed to burn in one of my motors. Royal purple doesnt seem to be burning at all.

If its a flat tappet cam, I'd suggest delo 400, 15w40, for a regular oil. Otherwise you'll be buying spendy oil like the royal purple if you want synthetic.

If it's a roller cam, pick your favorite.

87 and newer car motors are roller. All motors before that are flat tappet. Truck motors didnt all switch to roller till like 94... but you never knew what you got till you looked.

On roller cams there is a wheel on the bottom of hte lifter that rolls over the cam lobe. On flat tappet cams theres just a flat surface that rubs on the cam. That's why they need ZDDP(zinc phosphorous) as a high pressure lubricant to survive. This was just removed from all gasoline engine oils last year. This is the reason we have to use a diesel oil(delo 400), race oil(NSL valvolline), or high cost synthetic if you have a flat tappet cam.

Check your spark plugs for fouling. It could just be a gasket or something too.

Lol, I think I need to just have someone help me tune my carb, adjust my timing, and then figure out why I have NO torque....

If I was to pull a plug, I am sure it would look like someone crapped on it. My carb needs tuned so bad...

I think Wal-Mart or K-Mart carries it.

I run Valvoline Max Life. If its burning oil you may want to run a heavier weight. I put 10W-30 in my truck and it seems to be burning less oil.
