Kinda. The 92-97 are longer than the 98+. Also the LS1 4L60E has extra engine bolts. I think the new 98+ use a CAN bus system instead of the multiple pins.

According to that, it has a removeable bell housing. Unless thats where the extra bolts come in.

I just found a tranny in the same town as me that is from a 93 S10 with a 4.3L. According to that document this should work! $400 with TC. I'm gonna look at it and see if it will work. I guess I just need to check the tailshaft housing bolts (make sure it LOOKS like mine) and I should be good to go.

If I can't get this going I'm not gonna come down to the dyno.

Can anyone give some insight?

Is it difficult to change the output shaft on a 700r4? I think the S10 might have a longer tailshaft housing. If it does, can it be swapped without tearing into the transmission? I've confirmed that the 93 S10 4L60E should work, now I just have to make sure it fits.

The shafts should be the same.

I had the guts from my rebuilt Thirdgen 700R4 put into the core of my 4.3L S15 Jimmy 4x4 700R4. IIRC they just swapped the whole mess over.

You might have to find one and measure. I THINK you can just swap tail housings.

To swap outputshafts you have to take the whole trans apart. It all comes out the front and what's last to come out? The output. There really only is like one shaft isn't there? Been a while since I've been inside one.

Good news so far. The S10 tranny is nearly identical to my stock one. Same lengths, same connectors (same pins too), but the s10 has the different bolts for the inspection cover. Its aluminum. The fluid is really pink and looks/smells good. I'm hoping the internals are up to the abuse of the LT1!!!

I currently have my stock tranny on the shop floor. I'll put the new one up tomorrow. Might I also mention, these things are fricken heavy! Lifting a 150+ pound transmission onto a floor jack is difficult when you are laying on the floor!

hehe - The 'Hardcore' monicker under Paul's (Twilightoptics) name originally came from him bench-pressing his transmission into place, by himself, in the driveway, in the snow.

I feel your pain. I've had to do it with my t56 a number of times now. It sucks. Cool

I got all the camaro specific stuff transfered. The fluid coming out of my old tranny is a really dark red, glittery, smells funny, and kinda thick. The new tranny seems to be much better. I hope to have it up tonight, if not it will be under the car and on a jack.

Cool, you might want to flush your tranny cooler out if the old fluid was funky.

Good call. Maybe I'll get an aftermarket tranny cooler just to be safe. I think I can get a small one for $40. I cut the cooler hardlines anyway. Man those things can be a pain.

Travis, I still have the no-name tranny cooler that was in my IROC when I pulled the 700R4. I don't have the rubber lines, or the clips that hold it to the rad, but I still have the fittings for the lines.

It's yours if you want it shipped, or pick it up if your down south sometime.

I appreciate it man. I'm hoping to have this running by the weekend so I'll just get a new one. If the V6 car wasn't my daily driver, I'd snag the 10"x17" tranny cooler from it!
