|
|
So, yesterday didn't start out that well...
I got back from work in LaCenter... came home to Battle Ground... jumped in the Z.... fired it up.... and the shifter wouldn't get me out of Park.
It had to be 150 degrees in there when I opened it up....
So, I take the shifter apart, and it got so hot in there that the nylon/plastic shaft from the release button had warped like limp spaghetti.
So, my temporary fix was to leave the shifter T handle collar off... and press down really hard on the top of the nylon shaft to kick the release out. That took about an hour and two console disassemblies to figure out...
So, I head on out to the local Shell. No problem there... get back in, fire it up, and I start heading to Camas.
I get about 2 miles away... when the engine starts running funny. I check my gages, and notice I have no voltage. (12 volts) AC is still running, along with CD.
I get off the main drag, and it dies.
I checked the fuses to the computer, fuel injection and fuel pump, all good.
I notice that when I turn the key to the "on" position, the pump does not come on like it normally would.
I run 12 volts to the "G" tab on the data port under the dash, and I can hear the pump, and there's a lot of fuel at the schrader valve... but only if I'm running power through the "G" tab. It doesn't come on with the ignition key.
The missing sound is that buzz that comes on for a few seconds, then shuts off.
The engine fires up same as before... but it only runs a few seconds, even when I'm running the 12 volts direct to the fuel pump.
I'm thinking the fuel pump went away, because it was sudden, and it was a really hot day. If it was the alternator, (I had the 12 volts on the gage for the few seconds before it died) that wouldn't have killed the fuel pump, would it?
Suggestions? and, I'm considering the idea of cutting a hole in the floor to get to the pump, as opposed to dropping the rear end and then the tank.

I went out and looked at the fuses by the battery.... the 10 gage wire coming off the positive post was burned thru. Looked pretty corroded, but when I Hooked it up to the battery again, hit the key... it fired right up.
Need a new positive battery cable (mostly because of that wire) but out of all the crap it COULD have been... this was the best outcome possible. _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

Make sure that you have full voltage to the fuel pump. Charge the battery or put in a differant one and see if the fuel pump runs. Thats what litte I have to offer.
PS, I have the stock shifter out of my car if you need it or any peices of it. |

Well, I'd think I'd need that plastic nylon piece that the shifter button engages that runs down through the middle of the shifter down into the linkage, for sure....
The battery is fully charged. Engine fires up... and then dies. Is there a way to check the fuel pump relay(s)? _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."
