I put some lightly smoked ones on my car, haven't had any issues. You can still read it just fine, looks a little bit better...

It's not really even legal to put a clear cover over your plate, but people still do it.

From the Oregon State Vehicle Code:

Quote:
803.550 Illegal alteration or display of
plates; prohibited; described; exceptions;
penalty.

(1) A person commits the offense of
illegal alteration or display of a registration
plate if the person knowingly does any of the
following:
(a) Illegally alters a registration plate in
a manner described in subsection (2) of this
section.
(b) Operates any vehicle that is displaying
a registration plate that is illegally altered
in a manner described in subsection (2)
of this section.
(c) Owns and causes or permits a vehicle
to display a registration plate that is illegally
altered in a manner described in subsection
(2) of this section.
(2) A registration plate is illegally altered
for purposes of this section if the plate has
been altered, modified, covered or obscured
including, but not limited to the following:
(a) Any change of the color, configuration,
numbers, letters or material of the
plate.
(b) Any material or covering, other than
a frame or plate holder, placed on, over or in
front of the plate that alters the appearance
of the plate.

(c) Any frame or plate holder that obscures
the numbers, letters or registration
stickers, so as to render them unreadable.

(3) This section does not apply to the
following:
(a) Any placement of registration stickers
described under ORS 803.555.
(b) Any public official who displays or
performs any alteration of a registration
plate in the course of official duties.
(c) Any special interest registration plate
approved under ORS 805.210.
(4) The offense described in this section,
illegal alteration or display of a registration
plate, is a Class B traffic violation. [1985 c.243
§2]

Ya, even a clear cover in the great state of Washington is not legal (according to the stater that pulled me over at cows a few years ago). Whether or not they will stop you /ticket you for it is a matter of how much risk you like to take.

You going to bring your camaro to the Dyno gathering this month Brizio?

I was hassled for a smoked one. Haven't been hasseled for the clear one. Usually it's the lack of front plate.

I'll answer that with a previous reply from Schultzy. Dyno is on Saturday, Jan 26th. If you don't want to run the car on the rollers, that's OK, it's fun to just hang out.

Well normally the dyno itself is $60-$65 for three pulls. That is if we get enough people to participate. A typical dyno weekend flows something like this:

- Friday night we meet at a pizza parlor close to the freeway and hang out, bench race and eat while people roll in from out of town. We usually have folks from as far north as B.C. and as far south as Klamath Falls rolling in. Once everyone that we are expecting arrive we will break out to the different houses that people are staying at.

- Saturday morning we show up at the dyno bright and early (most of us hehe) and start the fun. We will normally chip in on some donuts and such.

- After dyno we will pick a place to get some grub and talk about all of the reasons that we didn't make as much power as we should have. If we eat at Hooters then sometimes we forget that part.

- We try to do a local cruise. Paul, John and myself have tentatively planned a route that will be different than any cruises we have done before. There are several options so we will be driving the route prior to dyno to finalize.

- Saturday night is usually the dyno party night. Since there are usually crewbies that are not yet 21 we end up at one of the local Portland/Vancouver members homes, rather than a bar, and kick back, snack, bench race, play video games, etc. etc. etc. Appropriate beverages for all age groups.

-Sunday we normally pick a place to go have breakfast.

After that it depends on the crowd and the year. Some of the long distance folks want to get back on the road after breakfast. Others may decide on another activity or just hang out at one of the locals homes. The real plan for Sunday normally forms on Friday/Saturday. The real fun is just getting to know each other and checking out all the different cars. A close second is cruising in a long line of thirdgen camaros/firebirds.

Hope that helps.

-Schultzy

P.S. Holy smoke! Is this number 8? The first one was in 2001 right?

Thanks Al!

Oh, and it looks like this is number 7. Still a pretty good run for this motley bunch! We have carved out a nice little corner of the world for ourselves.

You don't have to put your car on the rollers if you decide to come, not everyone will. It's fun to watch those that do fall short of the numbers they expect to put up. Directions will be posted to the agreed upon meeting place when the time comes.

Yep.

Hell I used to run 3.73 with no overdrive! For years. Brandon runs 3.23 with no over drive. And it was a daily driver for years.

I got the same transmission you have.

Yeah, the trip home from cows last year kind of sucked without overdrive. Laughing
