The necks are soldered in. You'd have to call around. Maybe a lining shop could do it. There has to be a way to get a cap to seal on your car AL. I've seen some really bad looking necks that still sealed.

Are you sure you have the right cap? The S10/tahoe caps look the same but have a different thread pitch. Post a picture if the situation has weirdness.

You could cut the filler tube by the tank and then clamp a hose to it to join in a filler neck of your choice. Thats what I've seen done when people go with the 4th gen tank (filler neck on 4th gen is way longer).

The cap is the one from NAPA which is supposed to be for our cars. I even took the one from my 92 which does seal, and it leaks on the 89. I went as far as disabling the ratchet by epoxying the two pieces of the cap together so I could tighten it further, it helped somewhat, but still leaks. Maybe I should try for one at the dealer.

The cap isn't supposed to seal.... ?

Do you have excessive tank pressure? What exactly is the symptoms? Gas flowing out the fill tube?

Yes, when the tank is at 3/4 to full. I know my 92 seals (or seats is a better term) because it vents off when I loosen the cap.

I have a thought though, maybe the cap is bottoming out in the fill tube, on the piece for the fuel nozzel. I only think this because the cap from my 92 doesn't seal on the 89 (Ihave 3 caps that all seal on my 92, but all fail to seal on the 89). Maybe if I took a belt sander to the bottom of the cap and took off about 1/4 - 1/2 inch, the o-ring in the cap should seat against the filler neck.

Are you sure it's not something more like the fuel vapors are constantly being let out, thus not building any pressure... i.e. if the canister was deleted?

Al, from your canister there should be a pretty obvious stretch of line that connects to the hardline that runs to the tank. Try pulling it after the car has been run to see if it's a pressure release problem.

Mine started doing that last year, due to a bad solenoid or something. Still haven't fixed it.

Thanks, I'll check. The thing leaks as soon as I fill up and leave the station - ask the crewbies from the trip to K-Falls.

Hmm... odd. Mine never leaked, it just sucked like crazy every time I pulled the cap, and smelled like gas all the time.

You can report this to the state to get them to fix it. All gas stations have to be certified by a EPA approved testing company. They not only test the tanks, but test pump accuracy as well. My brother-in-law is a manager for a company who does this, and they bring a truck with a guage and verify the accuracy of the pumps, and they have to sign off on it or they can literally shut the station down until they fix it. Definitely keep records for verification. I'm not 100%, but I think the pumps have to be tested every 6 months.
