|
Went to the dentist today with the intention of scheduling a root canal and crown work... little did I know, since brushing back BEHIND the tooth is damn hard in my mouth, the end results were what you see in the picture...
Long story short, when I was still living in Washington, back when Jess and Doug were still friends, and Paully (OG Paully #1) still owned his 83 Firebird, I had a filling come loose, and not having dental insurance at the time, thought nothing of it and figured I'd get it taken care of it soon enough... Fast Forward to early 2005, sitting at work and took a drink of a nice cold beverage, then took a bite of some nice hot pizza, and I was left with a chunk missing of my enamel... I didn't think it'd be too bad... the last 6 months I've been in a fair amount of pain, not being able to concentrate very well, trouble sleeping, etc, which lead me to finally get the time to go see a new dentist (guy off of one of the local car forums down here)... sad to say, the damage had gone beyond what a normal root canal and crown work could repair, there was no guarantee the work would last due to the location of the tooth and the damage. Had it been anywhere else on the tooth, I'd have been fine...
After careful poking, prodding and x-rays galore, we both realized (even me in my limited dental knowledge) that the tooth would have to be extracted, the damage had been far too along, and it was basically infecting my entire body, working its way even into the pockets below the roots ...
this is what came out of me.
if you have a weak stomach, honestly, don't look.
Will keep these linked

for those of you who worry that you're just not getting back there... this is a good warning for you.
it might just be the drugs talking (though to be honest its just antibiotics and 800mg ibprofuen) but after 6 hours, I have less pain in my mouth than I did when I went in (though, granted, a huge hole), and a feel like a fog has been lifted.... heal time is 4 weeks for the gum to completely close up and all that, but I doubt I'll miss it. |

Mmmm.... I'm hungry.
That looks like a tooth I had taken out when I was a teenager. Never had any pain but one day I was feeling around with my tongue and noticed that half of the tooth had collapsed in on itself. Crazy stuff. _________________

I broke a cusp off one of my molars a few years back, that was sort of painful. I thought it was a filling that had fallen out. My dentist sort of rebuilt the cusp with filling material and so far it's still doing OK. She said that I may need a crown there before long. _________________ 92 Camaro

NICE! Lol. I think stuff like that is interesting. I have a couple of fillings (mother never required teeth brushing) when I was young, but I'm thankfully doing good. Had to have my wisdom teeth pulled cause they were impacted. Oh well.
At least you are doing better Demon! Hopefully in the next week you'll feel 100%. Be carefull not to suck things! I had a partial dry socket and it SUCKS.
Did you get to keep the tooth? They tossed mine _________________ E30

My wisdom teeth by FAR were way worse than getting this one pulled... and unfortunately because I waited to get them pulled for so long they impacted and fucked the rest of my teeth up Good luck on the wisdom teeth recovery... did you have to do full surgical or were they coming up normal-ish?

Must be that time of the season... riiiiiight before the insurance for the year runs out... haha... the wisdom teeth have to be surgical or the molars do?

Yup I kept it... figured it'd be a good conversation piece or people would just happen to come across it and scream bloody murder... hahaha...
Doing much better, the pain killers don't even need to be used, but they certainly do help for sudden movements or jarring ... being a waiter has it's downsides when you've got a huge hole in your mouth. Doing my best to avoid those dry sockets, I did well with the wisdom teeth so this one shouldn't be much of a challenge... clot settled nicely and I don't usually use straws and I'm not a smoker, so I'm 99% safe ... I'm just glad I had the antibiotics though, can already tell a difference with having the tooth out, I feel loads better...
it's the most wonderful time of the year to do root canals and crown work if you've got insurance... roll the crown work into the next year and take two years worth of insurance.... |
