This time from the BMW guys...

Quote:
there are other ways to increase horsepower and torque without adding unnecessary upgrades and still be able to push 220 hp/tq to the rear wheels from stock engines . Just a few hints: REDUCE WEIGHT . Drive with 3/4 empty fuel tank ( short distances and when needed performance) , empty to minimum window cleaner , remove spare tire, loose some body weight etc..... . Do not forget that there is no 2 cars alike. Ussual curb weight for 330ci 2001 is 3664 lbs. That is where you get 200/198 stock hp/tq. As u can see at the dyno test the weight is 3290lbs , so I mannaged somehow to reduce it and get 220/216 hp/tq

funny how that works...
in my case, I literally did pick up hosepower by reducing weight...
stock lid weighs more than an aftermarket lid
headers weigh less than manifolds
catalytic coverters weigh more than not having them at all
3" stainless exhaust weighs less than 2.5" stock exhaust + muffler

at that point technically my engine was still stock... Shocked

uh huh...

so the no two cars alike applies to the waight, but not the dyno-measured HP/TQ. Laughing i guess the term "factory fluke" is not used much in the Beemer crowd.
