|
|
Alright,
It is getting to be that time of the year in the PNW, where it gets cold and rainy, and sometimes the better choice is to sit down, open the windos to see the rain, and drink a big ABV dark beer.
So, I was thinking, I need a list of beers try try this winter. I have a list going so far
Jubelale - Deschutes Brewery, USA (7%) (One of my favorites, I have a 6pack right now!)
Bush de Noël (Scaldis Noel) - Scaldis Belgian (12% ABV)
Affligem Noel - Affligem Belgian (8%-9%)
Brasserie d'Achouffe's N'Ice Chouffe - Achouffe Belgian (10%)
Gouden Carolus Noel - Brouwerij Het Anker, Belgian (10.5%)
Aass Jubeol - Drammen, Norway (6.5%)
Wintertraum - Leikeim, Germany (5.5%)
Winter Solstice -- Anderson Valley Brewing, USA (7%)
So for the beer connaisseurs of the group, let me know what your favorite winter brew is, or if you see any of the ones on the above mentioned list, and know where to find them at!

hmmm, not sure about any of those up there. Perhaps a description would help me to make a selection.
I have been pricing out starter kits myself. Thinking of giving it a go. Maybe we can get together and discuss

Ohh, are you thinking about starting to Brew?
I am always around to advise and help you pick stuff out. I can give you a lot of been there, done that, don't waste your money type advice.
Actualy, if you wanted, with Barts new work schedule, we haven't been brewing, if you wanted to come over for a brew day, I am dying to get some brewing done. We could drive down to the brew suppply store, and then you can do the brewing with me, and see the process and time involved. That might help you descide if you want to do it or not.

I second Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin ale. Brewed by pyramid or full sail I forget which.
Jubelale is a bit much for me but can be found anywhere.
In my fridge I have:
Sam Adams - Oktoberfest
Bridgeport - Ebenezer
Jubelale
Alasken Winter Ale
Jack's Pumpkin Spice
Buffalo Bill's pumpkin
Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin
I REALLLLLLLLY Liked the Widmir - Okto (oktoberfest)
Went through a few sixers and now I can't find it anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Oktoberfests are Marzens, Marzens are Lagers, so we could make an Ale in the ballpark taste wise, but it won't be as and crisp. I need to spend the money to get a small freezer so that I can lager, then we could do one for sure.

Is there anywhere around that sells Spaten or Paulener (sp?) beers by the bottle/can? I love going to Gustav's and all, but spending 40 bucks at a time just for myself gets spendy lol. Which reminds me, last time I went over there, for Oktoberfest they are selling Paulener Oktoberfest beer, as well as a 1 liter Paulener cup (yes, I got one... full of Oktoberfest.... no, I didnt drive home LOL)...
Now back to your regularly scheduled post. |

Old Chicago's have Spaten, They still have the oktoberfest in bottles, they actualy have a couple of German o-fests, I think they had Paulener also, that would be worth checking.
I had Warsteiner Dunkel last night, and have been having a bottle of Spaten o-fest almost every week. (I go to monday night football at old chicago.)

Where did you get this list of beers? I've only seen Jubelale, Affligem Noel, and Winter Solstice at the store, but only tried Jubelale. Thats a pretty crazy import list. |

Do you guy use Main Street Home Brew? Kevin is total cool, and knows his stuff, almost anything you want to brew he has the receipe. Me I really like doing something very simalar to a Black Butte Porter, but I like to add a few pounds of honey to the steep, really gives it a kick and depending on type of honey you can get some very good smells from it...
I haven't brewed in a while, really need to make another batch...

Ken, being on the east side, I go to FH Steinbarts. I even ran into Darren from Drinking with Darren fame, in the store one day. |

how is that stone 11th anniversary? I can't get it here in TX (send me some?)
I always loved Red Hook's Winterhook... I'll take it over most other winter beers... Saint Arnolds christmas beer tastes like you're drinking goddamned pine needles, so I will tell you, avoid it, a lot.
as for not made in the US, never tried any specific winter brews yet |
