Needing advice on stabbing the dizzy for one of these. I know they have to be in very specific, and this is the part of motors I am not good at.

Does the factory hold down put it in its propper place, or is it like any other sbc and I can spin the dizzy however?

:help:

it's like a SBC, but if you stab it in wrong, the computer will compensate for the mechanical timing, electrically. But it will throw a code. In order to properly set the timing, you want it at 0 degrees, so you just watch what the PCM sees as base timing with a scan tool, move the scan tool to the engine bay, move the distributor till it says 0, then tighten the distributor down. Clear the code afterwards.

BTW, i'm guessing this is for your truck?

Hey now, what do you have cooking in your garage? I have the 97 in the Tahoe, but I know nothing about it. How do you take the dizzy apart to find out if its at 1?

Twisted Evil There are 2 small torx screws that takes the dizzy cap off. Becareful these screws are not clipped into the cap and get lost often.

Thanks Sellman. I wont be having a live scantool on it for prob another 2-3 weeks after I hope to have it running. So I guess I will just have to do my best at guessing. No, this is not for my truck Wink

Am I correct that #1 on the rotor changes form pointing right-front(standard sbc) to left-front(vortec sbc)?

I love pics of parts piles Very Happy

That looks good. OBDII just like my Tahoe. Would it be advisable to go to the standard dizzy instead of the crab? I don't know anything about that system yet.

Your hoe uses a different ECM/PCM. However, I forget, some years you can just repin the harness and make it work with the LS1 unit.

You have to use the crab dizzy because it has a cam sensor in it.

I am the first to try and use the old style coil with a newer system. Old coil has more power *tim allen grunt*

you said its "vortec 350"?

I assume it uses the standard SBC intake mounting pattern and not the vortec style?

The dizzy, timing cover, and everything listed above for a 96 c1500 is off a vortec.

As you see above, I listed 810 heads, which is standard SBC heads.

Ah.....couldn't quote casting numbers off the top of my head, but it looks like you'll have a pretty sweet setup there when all's said and done.

Thats cool.

The 810 heads are TBI swirl ports. Not that great in the HP spec, but very decent for TQ, which is what I'm going for.

The cam doesnt have the greatest lift. But that can be easly changed down the road.
