They look the same, cost the same but they are different. The inners connect to the center link. The outers I believe connect to the front spindles. The one for sure difference between the two is the threads one is left hand thread and one is right hand thread. Make sure you take the inner and outter tie rod ends out together for each side then measure the distance between the centers of the rod end bolts. So when you put it back together you can make them the same distance apart so you wont need an alignment. They also shouldnt be to expensive they should run you 10-15 dollars each. So like 50 to 60 dollars for the set.

Good time to get one of those lifetime alignments and if you're at it solid tierod adjuster sleeves.

Schucks is ~$20-25 per tie rod.

And then if through me there's the Crewbie Discount. Very Happy

Some service centers offer a lifetime alignment. You pay when the first is done, then the rest are free for as long as you own the car. The initial cost seems expensive to some, but it's a good deal on the long run.

The only one I know of that does it is Firestone Shops and they don't have a limit. One of my accounts says he's got a guy that comes in at least once, sometimes twice a month.

I think you pay for the first 4 or 5 up front, after that they are all free.

Any time you do anything to the front end short of brakes, you need to get an alignment. Even as little as 1/16 of an inch can cause the steering wheel to go crooked, MPG drop, starts to pull. Hell, even the wear from old parts, to new parts can throw it off.

Doing what he said will make it so you can drive it a week, maybe 2 before an alignment. But you still need to get one.

last time i changed tie rods i did a visual alignment before i drove to the alignment shop. when i got there they said it was 1/10th of a degree off or some ludicrous number like that. i told the guy i eyed it before i drove down and his jaw about hit the floor. apparently i did a good job.
