Alright, I got my Z28 running the other day, and soon realized I was missing two important gears. I have no reverse and no 5th. The shifter will go through all the gears 1-4 very smoothly, but it has to be forced a little into 5th or reverse. Both gears, after being forced in, have no engagement. I can push the car just as if it's in neutral.
From the way I have to force it in and still with no engagement afterwards, and given that all my other gears work absolutely fine, I'm thinking that maybe something is wrong in the shift linkage inside the tranny. Which means I'm gonna hafta pull it out.
Anybody care to chime in with some help? |

Did you follow the set up procedure for the trani shifter cable?
It’s on TGO some where.
If the cable is off the tranni, and the rear axel tubes are on good jack stands (be careful)
Can you manually, by hand underneath the car, move the shifting lever it those gears and does it work???

| I just got done putting on of these back together. To lose 5th and reverse sounds like a problem with the 5th - Reverse shift lever. Gonna have to pull it apart to find out for sure though. |

If he's got a fifth gear, he probably doesn't have a shift cable. |
