I had pics of this before but deleted them. Here they are again Aaron.

I got a piece of Steel. Made the holes where I wanted. Bought Neat little lights from Radio shack for the turns and e-brake. Didn't put a high beam light in but the concept is the same.

Got the connectors from baxter (spendy, but I wanted big connectors so I could just unplug the whole assembly easily).

It's rather involved as I tapped the factory harness for power/ground and evenly dispursed them. Also for the turns, lights, brake, water temp, fuel, volts.

I run my oil pressure in my tripple gauge pop along with the WB display and fuel pressure... matching autometers.

I swapped them. My jeep has the speedo on the right. So I put it there for similarity. Plus... my WB/Fuel Pressure/OIL is on the pillar and shift light below the pillar so I figured having everything important on the dragstrip on the same side so it's easier to see.

Didn't have high beams on the car at the time, so I didn't put a light in. Addressed that above.

Seat belt lights have a tendancy to not work. So I left it out. I know when my seatbelt is on LOL. Mine didn't work anyway.

Aftermarket ECM so I didn't use a SES light.

You could easily hook all those up on the factory wiring with a 4th connector. I think there were 6 pins per connector that I bought.

Brake is the big fat read light on the lower right, blinkers are the little red lights on the top corners. Got em at radio shack like the top says :O)

Wow. Really nice work on that Paul. Thanks for putting up these pics. I know I'm going to end up doing something like that on my IROC.

Half of my guages are either completely inaccurate or broken right now, and while I kinda like the design of the stock console, it's to much trouble to get working with an electronic VSS.

BTW, for those connectors, try Harbor Freight. They sell boxes of 50 for around six bucks. Baxter's wants about 3 bucks for a box of ten.

Thats pretty sweet. Exactly what I'm going for in mine. Since I have the LT1, there isn't a speedo cable, just the VSS. So I had to get a new speedo. I basically did what you did, but kept the stock gauges cause mine still work, kinda. Some still have to wired up.

You said you have a shift light??? How did you get that going? I'd love one to come on at 6k so I don't hit the rev limiter. LT1's are cool.... he he, hehehe, cooolll...

The connectors I speak of are not the little crimp connectors.
They are the big fat 6 wire connectors. There are 3 you can see on the end of the wires in the finished pic. They are GM style and you buy the housing then buy the little crimp pieces and crimp the wires then slide the pieces into the housings.

I got an MSD two wire piece and then I used MSD rpm switch. It's activated with pills like the MSD rev limiter is. Then I bought msd's dial pill box so I can change my shift light point in 200rpm incriments. Then I find out the c950 can run a shift light LOL

In the picture, it's the piece left of the steering wheel, under the a pillar/dashpad.

I think those are called 'packard' connectors. They come in different pin combinations and have some environmental protection. Still commonly used in automotive applications. That's good to know you can get them in bulk at Harbor Freight. They are a rip-off when purchased individually!

No no no... Paul was right, I was thinking of the spade crimp-style connectors. I saw he had a bunch of the little boxes in his pic, so I fogured that's what he was talking about.

BTW, I think you need a few more stickers from Autometer. You should trade them to some kid to stick on a ricer. Very Happy

Paul, what did you end up doing with the VSS wires going to the back of the old speedo? Does the Commander950 even need a VSS?

My old speedo didn't have vss. It was cable driven. If you are talking about the buffer on the back.... the autometer has a buffered output that in theory should work with the factory cruise control. My CC hasn't worked for a while so I don't know if it works. It should also be able to send the signal to the ecm.

C950 doesn't use speed at all.

Hmm, I always thought those three lines went to the ECU, not the cruise. My setup should be the same as yours ('87 Camaro w/cable speedo) except I still have the stocker computer in there with a hypercrap chip.

Okay. Any codes if I pull them? Any running problems? I've seen topics going both ways on TGO. Some people swear it screws the idle, others say it runs fine without any VSS.
