well put the boat in & she ran, but not well I think my timing is screwed up, so i couldnt really do much carb tuning
I think i need to reset from scratch the timing & see what that will do
outta the water she sounds fine, but once you put a load on, she starts knocking & ping & sometimes backfiring

knocking and pinging usually means lean or too much timing... backfires (through the exhaust) are too far retarded timing or WAYT too much fuel.... in general terms. I know there are other attributing reasons.

Boats are cool. I want a boat.

Remember that marine applications are different. Make sure that if your dizzy has vacuum advance that it's locked out. Boats are a constant load unlike automotive so some things that work for a car don't apply.

What engine, drive and hull are we working on? I'm gussing 350 Merc in a baylitter so it'd be an Alpha I/O.

I've got a feeling that it's an easier solution than you think. Check and see if the plugs are fouled. Given the age of the engine and type of use compounded by a new carb that isn't set up completely it's likely the plugs fouled out enough to cause everything.

I doubt very much you want the payments and/or hassles that go with them. I'm a touch over 1/2 way through the restoration of mine now. Between the parts I have for it, and for 3rd gens laying around my garage, Rodneys garage, and two other friends garages I'm tired of having it all. I've been so tired of sniffing fiberglass dust that I *may* have worked 4 hours on it since new years, and I probably have another 40-60 hrs left glasswork to do.

I guess that means your car should be a shiny gas guzzler real soon then since aaron has sold his house and he's got my buffer and carb that he's dropping off at your place.

You just want me to *store* my T-56 over there now......

when the word boat comes to mind, think lots of $$$$$
mines got a 49 gallon gas tank, it cost me $50 to fill half of it up
everything for boat costs 2x3x times as much
sure they can be lots of fun

Ill check the plugs, but i do know that when we were on the water & playing with the timing, the knock did go away, so I think it could be all 3

thanxs for the suggestion, i may check it out tonight, I started my new job yesterday & was so beat from the weekend at the park, that i crashed about 8:30 last night
