the 1986 2.8L V6 dynoed an impressive 120HP 152TQ
the 1988 5.7L GTA dynoed a less impressive 220HP. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

My bird gained about 10hp over last year.
235hp and 252 tq.
Pegged the wideband rich just like last year. Still need some tuning. Any tuning. _________________

Bone stock 305 TBI produced 142HP and 224 lb/ft torque and just a little rich around 3000-3500 RPM and hit the speed limiter at 112mph.
The 3.1L V6 ran off the scale rich just before 4000 RPM and produced a less than impressive 102HP and 165 lb/ft torque. Hit the speed limiter at 108mph. Now I need to find the cause of the rich condition and bring the hp up to the 120 range. _________________ 92 Camaro

That 230hp/330ft lbs from the factory was at the flywheel Tony. Your dyno numbers are rear wheel. Considering your mileage and limited mods I think your results are good. What were your torque numbers from the dyno? 330 ft lbs or so? Again at the rear wheels.
As for me I stayed about the same and it looks like the new valve springs eliminated the break up on the top end after 5500rpm. I'll post more up later today.

Or is it
“What happens in Portland stays in Portland”, lol.....
I was sick all Darn weekend the FLU!.....Crap....
But
It’s a good thing we didn’t go, the car on Friday started to just out of the blue,
Just quite, like you turned of the ignition.
Wait a few seconds and it starts right up. Goes another mile or so, and it does it again.
Damn that car was running nice up to this point
What do you think it is???
So we haven’t looked at it yet but will this week.
The kid started working on the hood, lots of sanding getting it ready for paint. |

I was down a few HP from last year, I put 218/250. I need to solve the detination issues, and richer her up. With the new throttle body on, it was really lean (thats a good thing, means more air is getting in).
So...when are the pics getting posted? |

all in all, a fun weekend. Just wanted to say thank you to Al, for letting me drive his car and burn some rubber , thanks to John, for letting me drink his beer and sleep on his couch, thanks to Mike, for letting us hang at his place and drink his booze. It was great to finally meet Chris, Ian, Paul, Rod, and Jen.

Ok here is my data...
Graph
Chart
I didn't expect to gain anything from the commander, that was more of a tuning upgrade that started to look much more attractive as I continue to blow up mass air flow sensors I did expect to see some more power after adding the beehive springs.
My 1/4 mile trap speeds went from 107 MPH before the valve spring swap to 109.3 MPH after. That compares out to about 363 hp before (matches pretty close to last years dyno numbers) to 387 hp after. When you look at the graph and the comparison chart you can see that the new springs definitely improved stability above 5500.
Everyone seemed to be a bit lower than the last time they ran on that dyno. A wise man once said that the dyno is a tool for tuning not for measuring.
Regardless I am pretty pleased that in less than a week we managed to strip the injector and sensor wiring from the factory harness, installed new harnesses from holley, installed new ecm, plugs, cap, rotor, oil change and got it tuned enough to run the dyno and cruise around this weekend. Thanks again to Paul, John, and Bartimus for the last minute helps. Tip of the hat to Master B for all of the advice along the way.
But wait, what abou the nitrous runs you say? I got everything hooked up. I even jetted up about a 240hp shot and tested it late Friday night. Felt pretty damn good too! Unfortunately in my haste I made an error and messed up one of the aluminum fittings. This allowed my bottle to drain. I made a last minute run to Baxters Saturday morning but they didn't have the fittings that I need.
Maybe if Zac gets a dyno day going up north later this year we'll drive her up and see how she does.
I wanted to thank everyone for a good time this weekend. My apologies to my guests. This cold has been kicking my ass. I normally try to be a good host but did not have my normal level of energy. It was great to hang out and BS with you all though. What a gorgeous day for a Columbia Gorge cruise.

Big thanks to John and Mike for hosting the masses. Jen and I had a blast this weekend, it was great.
I don't have my sheet in front of me but I think my best was 292 rwhp and 300 rwtq. Not what I was hoping for but not horrible either. My best fuel miliage was going home from Portland to Oakridge which is the town you hit right before going over the Wilamette pass. Got 21 mpg doing 75 down I5. I was stoked on that. Not bad for a Demon double pumper carb and 4.10 gears. |
