Hooked the tach up and the laptop... and when the motor cuts out... isn't 6500 when the c950 limiter comes it... it's at 5500.

Doesn't matter what gear, it just stumbles and studders.

No fuel pressure loss.

Nothing in the ecu file is causing it.


I have no MSD right now?
Running Mike's old GM module? (My old one was GM also, going to put it back in and see)

anyone have any ideas?

What valve springs did you use and how long have they been in there? I'm just throwing guesses. The loss of power is like hitting a rev limiter?

Used the Lunati dual springs that Harold told me to put on when I put the cam in. Less time on them than yours. Also, hit 6k just fine at the track the last time I drove it Shrug

I'll be setting lash here again soon too.

Yeah it's like hitting a rev limiter. Cuts out, but not a gradual thing just bam stutter studder stutter .... like it's missing.

Similar to what you've felt in the past mikey.

Sounds more like ignition to me. When is the msd box due back?

I'm not using my digital mallory right now, if you'd like to try that. The distributor parts all look good inside? No shaft wobble? The trigger wheel didnt crack did it? I'd think probably module or pickup.

I called MSD yesterday... it's in the "repair/check" phase. He said call back wednesday.

Thanks for the offer B. We'll see how it goes, may take you up on that. Give me an excuse to bring you that interior part.

Here is a picture of what the dizzy looked like. The tab that holds the pickup to the module broke off... but fits in there real snug. Didn't seem like there was any shaftplay. The pickup coil is a year old napa. Replaced it when I was having a studder at part throttle which turned out to be a bad cap/rotor.

Don't understand why it looks so damn nasty.

Shocked it almost looks like that Dizzy was soaked in a bucket of Seawater for a week, then ran inside your car for 6 months.

Some reason these small cap hei's all get corroded like that around here too. I've seen the large cap ones last through a couple of motors. But the small caps barely last a year.

That dizzy looks pretty nasty. I'd be wondering if something in that mess isnt doing it. Anybody got a spare you could try?

Hmm not that I know off.

Hopefully it's just module.

If the other module doesn't work I'll try a new pickup. (found out those aren't cheap! LOL)

If that doesn't work maybe try borrowing one.

I just put a new dizzy in my kid's S10. The thing literally just fell apart inside from rusting. The module had 1/2" of rust powder on top of it. I was really amazed just how bad it was. I had the one in my car out a couple of years and and it was rusted pretty badly also.

Who'd you end up getting the Dizzy from? This is the 2nd reman from Napa... and it's only got a year maybe year and a half on it.

Is that a molding mark or a crack I see coming from the coil tower going to the right on that cap? I'm just wondering if you're getting crossfire from bad tuneup parts. The msd box would only make that worse. With the hot coil, and the msd the spark voltage is so high it'll take any weak path.

Hmmm no idea. I'm going to order the pertronix unit tomorrow. Didn't realize they were so cheap!

When it comes and I pull the cap off again I'll take a good look.

I got my distributor from work. I get a disocunt. Wink And it has a liftetime warranty which means even the module is covered since it comes with a module.

I use the red MSD cap and rotor on my car. No caps and rotors I've tried last that long, but the MSD seems to last a little longer, and they aren't any more that other caps and rotors with brass contacts. I won't run any with aluminum contacts.

Hmm that might not be a bad idea for a quick fix. Napa wanted $125 for the reman with a 1 year warrenty.

I ran the msd cap/rotor once and it seemed to die quick like the rest. That was before the jacobs. Jacobs coil seems to make em last a little longer.

Well ours is liftetime. Just need to remember the phone number you gave when you purchased it.

I need to go with the Jacobs coil..........been putting it off. Did a few other maintenance things which made the car more enjoyable to drive.......like a starter that the drive engages first time, every time, and a working headlight switch. Dang stock ones only lasted me 20 years Razz

Are you able to get the Jacobs through csk? I tried locating it through Speed Warehouse up here and evidentally CSK screwed up bills with them years ago and they won't do business with CSK anymore.

Can you replace the magnetic pickup star? Or is that part of the pickup coil... I forget.

Going to try a new pickup coil/module before getting another whole unit.

I checked with my cam guy today and we have no direct way of getting anything Jacobs. Summit seems the best bet.

Did you see the Ultra coil on Ebay that went for $81?? Summit is $67 as I recall. Moral of this story is check prices first before bidding Smashy Smashy
