I recently bought an 87 Camaro and replaced the fuel pump and now it runs Razz

But i noticed the radiator is leaking from the side and the stock fan has been tore out and a replacement has been spliced and poorly mounted. SO Friday im going to a junk yard to find some goodies and i was wondering how can i tell the difference between the radiators in the camaros to find one that will work with what i have now? BTW i have the 2.8l V6

ANY thirdgen radiator will work i your 2.8L v6. if you happen to find a v8 radiator it will be about two inches wider on each side, this does mean additional cooling capacity, additional coolant capacity and more weight. as long as you have a working thermostat, present airdam and working fan you should not need a larger radiator.however it is an "upgrade", i know that s what i would get if my v6's radiator went out.

also you may want to consider going with a new replacement radiator, a junkyard radiator may also have a leak. in addtion to that, if you have an automatic trannsmission the cooler is located in the radiator, so any replacement will have tyo be thouroghly flushed out. you don't want the nasty fluid from thier blown tranny getting into your fluid and destroying your trannsmsisson.

Why not just buy a new one? I don't know how much you're planning on putting into the car, but a new radiator should be only a little over $100 and you wont have to take the chance that it will start seeping, or like Tony said, be full of crap.

If you do go used, just take a tape measure with you, and jot down the height, width and depth.

I have a radiator that came out of my 3.1 when we did an engine swap. Still held water when I pulled it out. It is for a standard transmission car as it has no provisions for transmission cooling lines. If you have an automatic, you can run an external trasmission cooler in front of the radiator. Let me know if you can use it.

I might have a v8 rad you can have, if I still have it, cam out of a 87z28
Its was new, ran it 3 months.
But Iam not sure I still have it,
If you can wait till Monday I can let you know if it’s in my side yard.
I may have thrown it way accidentally.

But you are a ways away..

I reamber when i yanked my 2.8 out my my 86 the v8 rad and the v6 besides size are total diff, the outlets for the hoses are on the wrong sides so it would be hard to find hoses.

I'm using an '84 Z28 radiator in my 2.8L RS. Yes, besides the size difference, the V8 radiator's inlet and outlet are on the opposite side from the V6 radiator. I just spliced the V6 and V8 hoses together and it has worked great, my car never overheats! Cool

My 3.1 is the same width and hight as the one in my 305, hoses are the same too. It uses the same upper and lower supports. The only difference may be the thickness of the core.

i got one in my shop fan too came out of 89 bird with a 700 r4 so it has the cooler tell me where ur and maybe i can deliver also for a small fee

Radiator.com will have the exact replacement for your needs. I've purchased 2 from them in the last 5 years and am happy with them. Good customer service and decent delivery speed.

PS: I also have a 3rd gen rad that I just removed last week. It was on my Iron Duke car and is for a standard tranny.
