|
|
| So tomorrow im probably going to get a 87 RS. It dosent start but sounds like it wants to, so hopefully it's something little to get it running. But what i'd really lke to do is take the power windows, powerlocks, and all that stuff from my current 89 rs and put it into this one. So i was wondering if this is gonna be hard or not? any advice / help? |

| swapping the doors themselves would probably be the least work, but you can remove power door locks and window stuff and put it in the non-power doors. there are tech articles about both on TGO. |

| Painting the car anytime soon? If so, just swap both doors out. Saves a lot of drilling, dropping stuff inside the door, cursing, bloody knuckles, ect. Then you'll just have to worry about screwing up the hinge alignment. |

if you swap from power to crank windows, you'll need a big rivit gun, 1/4" rivits, and probably an extra hand to hold and help align the window glass on the rollers.... you'll probably end up with a lot of that window grease on your hands.
I know there's a tech article on TGO about this, but I dont feel like looking for it right now.
I used to have and 84 SC that I switched from power to crank windows. I'd rather do that any day than swap door hinges...those doors weight about 90lbs a piece. _________________

| Locks shouldn't be too hard. You'll need a drill, a rivet gun, I think some 1/4" rivets, and some patience since it's hard to line up. The one in my drivers door still isn't working 100% right. |

| Harbor freight sells a 1/4" rivet gun for like $15. I priced one at work once and they wanted over $200,... the harbor freight china model works enough for me. |

Who is charging that much for a rivet gun? They sell those clicker-type anywhere for less than $30, and most come with a couple boxes of rivets free. Try and get one with a removable tip so you can use a couple different sizes without buying a new gun. |

I bought the same harbor freight gun (the $15 one) and it worked great...and it came with a bunch of rivets. _________________
