|
|
I got tired of looking at my one black fender and multiple chips and scuffs in my paint so I went to the Dollar Store and got some rattle cans. Two cans of red and a can of black. Turbo-jimi and I spent hours sanding and scuffing the paint on my front fascia, gfx, hood, and fenders. We masked it off and went to town with the red paint. We had enough to do the front and the right fender, part of the hood where the oxidation was really bad and a little of the left fender. Then, since we had the black, we decided to paint the headlight pockets. They turned out really well and the whole thing looks better than in the pics. Best part; it only cost $3!!!
Heres what it looked like before:

The best rattle can job I ever saw! Looks nice though. what did you do to your facisa to get it ready to apply paint or did you just go to town on it? Im getting ready for a complete repaint (not spray paint though) _________________

We used various grits of sandpaper, depending on what needed the most sanding...some parts required 60 grit (a little extreme, but effective on the deep chips) while most of it required 250 to 400....i did burn through the paint on the hood in a couple of spots, but was able to cover that right up _________________

This is not a permanent paint job and we are for sure not expert painters but at least the right fender matchs the rest of the car now. Since the Dollar Store didn't have any primer we just sanded the pits to feather the edges smooth and then scuffed the rest. Then we sprayed the dust off with water and dryed with a towel before painting. I will be getting it painted for real (does Macco count?) before next summer! |

My purple 92 has a Maaco paint job on the parts that weren't recently repaired, but it wasn't the one they constantly advertise on TV. _________________ 92 Camaro

yeah just scuffing the paint on the facia should take care of it. although
BEWARE of the spidercracks that are offten found on the fronts of these cars. If you plan to paint and you have these, you have to sand all the way down to bare plastic or else they will just crack whatever paint you put on top. trust me I learned the hard way, when i had my car in primer, the cracks came through and i had to restrip mt front and rear bumpers. Its just a pain in the ass. just my 2 cents

PS looks great by the way. its amazing how much better they look when they are at least one color. or at least look it from 10 feet away _________________ 1983 Z-28 5.7 LT1, T56, Headman headers, BW 9 Bolt Posi Disc, WS6 suspension

Yeah, those spidercracks are a bitch! I will be sure to remind Maaco to use flex-additive in the primer for all rubber surfaces!
Thanks for the complements, I'll have to get some better pictures in the daylight, although from the doors back it still looks like ass! :p |

Cleaned her up nice. What is the plan for the paint scheme when you get the whole car shot?

I've got several two-tone ideas floating around my head, but I will probably just go with all burgundy, or 'Medium Patriot Red Metallic' as GM called the color of my '94 Camaro. Then I think I might hijack Jake's idea and do silver or gunmetal Shelby stripes. |
