As some of you know from a previous post, I was considering a second 3rd gen to use as a toy. Today I was able to test drive it and thought it did pretty good. It has a few rattles, the door hinges need work and the interior needs work, but otherwise a pretty nice car for 17 years old. As far as I can tell, she is all stock and has a 305 with a throttle body, and a 5-speed, the odometer shows 86,000 - I assume 186,000.

Sweet Al! Doesn't look like 186k in the pics.
Love the color

The only reason I assume 186K is because it it 3 years older than the purple one which has 205K _________________ 92 Camaro

Bleh. I hate those RS wheels. Everything else looks great though. How much are they asking?
*Edit: Al, have you cross-checked the mileage on CarFax or anything? That would tell you if it rolled over. |

Don't know that it really matters on a third gen that looks that good. What condition is the interior in?

The interior needs carpet up fron, both door pulls, a dash pad, console cover and thes seats need recovered. Both doors sag a bit (drivers door especially), the passenger door handle rattles. I'll have to do something about the wheels later.
Went for $3000 plus tax, title, license. I put half down and finance the rest for a loan fee and 0% interest. |

SWEET!!! (except for the red (pink?) rims). If you want a set of all grey wheels like those I'll sell you the set off the 85 for $50. They have fairly new 215/70's on em. They got a bit of curb rash, but nothing bad. I can clean em up too.
You gonna keep the L03 in stock form or will you do some "dewification"? _________________

First on the agenda will be to get her cleaned up inside and out and see what really needs done to get to 100% stock. Then I'll start on upgrades. Sounds like a good deal on the wheels, what size are they, 15"? |

Yes sir......identical in every way except for the red outline.
If you have center caps, you might want to keep yours, I only have ones for the front. _________________

Al that car is beautifull!! i think i am the only person i know who actualy likes the colormatched RS wheels. i do think it would look better without them though. but i don't feel it looks bad with them.
what color is the interior? instead of having the 3rd gen seats recovered (huge $$) you may just want to keep your eyes peeled for somone parting out some cloth 4th gen seats. they will drop right in, are lighter then thirdgen seats (if unpowered cloth) and in theory will be in good shape.
i can't wait to see progress photos. i know you will have that thing looking tip top in no time. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

I just had a mechanic check it out. Except for the expected shocks/struts in fair condition (left rear needs replacing) and a brake job for the left rear (I'll do both), the car is mechanically sound.

As for the interior, I'll be looking for black pieces - front carpet, driver's kick panel, headliner (t-top style), console cover, door panels, and of course, all four seats need recovered or replaced (black & gray currently). Will 4th gen rear seats fit?
Edit: I also found that the instrument lights do not work (fuse is ok, maybe the dimmer) and the horn doesn't work - can't find a fuse and don't know where the relay is. |

Found someone local who will take them off me for a fair price (they have new rubber on them) for a friend's S-10 pickup. I might take him up on that and put the money toward these (the black ones)

Some nice stuff in that car.... 3.08 posi, and everything but the antenna is power. You also got a 2.95->0.63 WC T-5 in there.
Edit: I love this one though....

The suspension is ready for upgrade as the left rear shock is blown and the struts are starting to leak. As for everything power, the seats are not either.

I have some black 4th gen seats (all four) from one of our new members, grassrootsgm, as soon as I work out how to pick them up.

Hmm... flipped AR9 (reclining bucket) with AD9 (d. side power adj.). |

According to Carfax, odometer reporting became exempt in 2000. That tells me the mileage is 186K. And doing simple math, the average joe drives about 10,000 miles per year. 10K X 17 years = 170K. |

No plans for that yet. Being used to my 3.1, this is a powerhouse I plan to restore it to stock, except for wheels and seats before any engine go-fast mods. |
