I was wondering if their was a good book out their on carb overhals and function.
The guy at my shop that does most of that is going to be out gitting sholder sergery. so I would like to be able to do it.
I want one that covers more that just what is stock on a car i could look that stuff up on alldata. and if any of you sugest the manufactures service manual i will kick your..... that is what i can get on alldata.

I would like one that covers holly and edelbrock as well becaus we see those replacing the stock stuff.
Plus I need to know about some of the smaller carbs on the imports because we see those too.

If their is such a resorce lit me know.

I don't know if it will be much help but I have a "How to Rebuild/Modify" books for Rochester and Holley Carbs if you wanna borrow em.

Are you wanting performance tuning tips or something Bart? Frankly there is really almost nothing in an edelbrock/afb type carb. 2 floats, 2 metering rods, and 4 jets. Almost as simple as it comes. The holley's have a few more pieces. Quadrajets are simple too, unless they're ccc.

If all you are doing is stock rebuilds, I dont see anything in the carbs that will foul you up. Just follow the kit instructions. The only time carbs start to get complicated is when you start modifying air bleeds and such. But thats not a normal thing.

On quadrajets make sure that the primary throttle shaft isn't too sloppy. Not sure if your shop is setup to rebush them or not. Mine isnt, but I do have the equipment to do it at home. The quad seems to be the only carb to wear badly here, bad enough that it will screw up the idle from all the air it'll suck. Watch the air tubes and metering rods when you put one back together. You don't want to bend or knock anything out. Had a guy bring a quad in once, complaining about mileage. Previous owner had gotten the primary rods in wrong, then tightened the top down. Totally missed the jets, bent the rods into fish hooks. So primary jets were always wide open.

Biggest thing with a rebuild is cleanliness. Very small ports so make sure to blow them all clean with carb cleaner and compressed air. Match the gaskets to the ones you took out. Sometimes there are different choices in the kit. Not all will work.

Almost all carb rebuilds are either for sunk floats or ruptured power valves. Quad's have sinking floats, holleys rupture power valves, AFB/edles are nearly indestructible unless they get dirt in them.

You'll soon find out that 90% of the cars that come in for carb rebuilds have something wrong with the ignition. Kind of like how people blame the ecm for everything that happens in a modern car they dont understand.

If you want a good performance quadrajet book, I see the poncho guys on a couple different sites raving about this one. Supposed to have full color photos and easy explanations of how to rebuild and make one perform.

Kinda funny, I didnt even look at the name of the book. When I was searching for it, I was looking by author. Then didnt put things together with your post.
