Finally got paid today, so I ran the IROC and the trans out to Vern's in Tacoma. Took his builder less than an hour before I got the call. The new one is useless.
Clutches have been replaced, but with very thin cheap steel.
Sun shell is clearly used, with very obvious wear on the splines.
The 1-2 accumilator piston was completely removed, and the accumilator itself was filled with some sort of green silicone goop.
The same green goop was used rather liberally to block off passages in the valve body.
He listed more stuff, but by that time I was really to pissed off to care very much about what else was wrong with it.
I'm not an expert on automatics by any means, so I might be off on some of those descriptions, but the short story I got from the builder was that they only useable parts were the housing and the pump, and the housing was fron an '85.
I already sent an e-mail to the guy I bought it from telling him I want a refund. Right now though, my only question really is if there's anything that I can do, aside from having it towed back to my parents house, and leaving it till I actually have the cash for a Pro-Built, or a T-56. That and trying to get my money back. |

You might as well save up for a swap to a stick. most every one here who has began to create a little bit of power has gone through mutiple autos. paul became an expert at changeing them he even did it in the snow. now he has a stick.
save up read up tow it back to your parents and start the prep work for a stick like put in the pedals and gitting the old one out. have some crewbie by to help it can be great fun. |

| The problem right now is that I'm flat broke, and I just got my work hours cut back again. Assuming I actually can get my money back for the bad tranny, and I pick up a second job at night, it'll still be at least six months out. |

| TH350? I know it doesn't have OD, but it is stronger, and cheaper than trying to deal with a 700r4 |

| Thought about it, and around town it would be great, since I never shift into OD. However the car does get a fair bit of highway use, and it would kill me, especially with the 3.73's out back. I would be running at around 4K at highway speed. |

Don't remember what you are running but I would guess that you are not going to trash a TH350. That would be my move. Only trade off is gas but I bet you could save enough between a TH350 and getting a built 700R4 to cover it for a while.
Seems like the best bang for the buck.

Interim solutions aren't going to be perfect. It would be more fun to drive the car with a 3 speed then let it sit 1/2 year or more waiting for a 4 speed.
Besides that it is hard on a car to sit. Better to run it. |

| That's what I thought when I went with a used 700R4, and now look how that's costing me out the ass. It's true what they say... do it once; do it right. |

| I'm sorry it didn't work out. It must make you sick to your stomach. Best of luck getting your money back. Did you happen to get a copy of the original advertisement? Does it suggest in any way that the transmission is in working order? |

| I didn't grab the ad before he pulled it, but I do have all the e-mails he sent me, my responses, as well as a handwritten receipt. |

| there is a th350 sitting in an 83 camaro behind a 350 in damascus upullit right now. got a NICE xmember too, with a (on xmember) tourqe arm mount and the right lenght driveshaft sitting behind it. the shifter cable is even still there. upull it would probably let it go reasonably cheap |

I saw it. It was a nice crossmember. Had the long driveline since it's the short tailshaft. |

My 700R4 is up for grabs for $300 with the converter and cooler out of the Berlinetta.
I'll even include the warrenty that if it doesn't work, i will refund your money.....NO HASSLES. If you want, I'll even pitch in a hand to install it, but I would require reimbersement in gas cost to drive up there. _________________

Is that the same tranny that you had committed to sell another crew member at substantially less?
