I've wanted to do this for a long time, actually had the parts for several months. I saw a post on TGO where one was done the other day and thought I'd get off my butt and put mine in. The LED is the same color as my instrument panel. Sorry for the somewhat blurry pic - the exposure is 6 sec with no tripod.

are you going to be at cows so we can see that in person?
heck, you might even win somthing at the car show with your awsome ride. like "80s modified" or somthing. provided they don't pay attention to your bone stock engine bay. |

I have made plans to be there.
Routing the wire for that was lots of fun There's a small light in the middle of the dash which is supposed to light the radio and ash tray I removed that long ago and used the left over connector to power the LEDs - works with the park lights.

Might not let them open the hood anyway - I have a hard time opening it myself |

realy? you know we can fix that. i am the master at getting these hoods to open. i have re-alighned the one on my 86 a few times. both times i had to monkey with the latch a bit, but i always got it to pop open without any help from a second party.
i am gonna open my hood my engine has been described as "intense" by the people at napa. and my whole car was described as a "dope ride" "pimping" "awsome" "sweet" and "gangster" by a groupe of folks in front of a bar in portland last night. mostly i want to show off a few underhood beutification mods i have done. |

Got some better pics now that it's actually dark out and I was able to set the camera on something solid.

| Are those wired to be always on, or are they like a courtesy light? |

| They are wired to the gauge lights and come on with the park lights. In effect, a courtesy light. |

It'd be cool to have them on a timer, so they were off when the car was running, but stayed on 60 second after the engine was off. That way you woudln't be fumbling for them in the dark.
Still, it's a pretty cool idea for a visual mod.
Now it's only a matter of time before that Camaro starts to look like this:

Might be able to do that with a capacitor, light would stay on until it discharged. I don't know how that would work with LEDs though, since they draw so little current.

i have an LED i am using as an indicator for my 2nd cooling fan, after i turn the fan off it takes almost 30 full seconds to totaly fade out as the fan spins down. they will fade. just get a realy small capacitor.
on TGO a while ago a guy installed a courtesy dimmer that made all of his lights inside tha car slowly fade out. you could search for that and use the same capacitor he did. if you hooked it up to all the lights the regular bulbs would drain the capacitor and the leds would fade with them. |

That's the post that I got the idea from. My alarm has dome light supervision capability (had problems enabling it, so we left it off), turns on the dome light when disarmed so you can see in the car as you approach, keeps the dome light on after shutting off the motor until the alarm is armed. My installer and I need to look at this feature again sometime and see if we can get it to work. |

That's pretty cool Al, I know when I give people a ride for the first time the handles can be tough to find in the dark. Looks like you solved that problem! _________________ 1983 Z-28 5.7 LT1, T56, Headman headers, BW 9 Bolt Posi Disc, WS6 suspension
