last week or so i asked what kind of setup i should run and now i know. now the question is what order should i get this stuff in. i dont have the cash to do it all at once so i can either get my cat back first, or get my headers and y pipe and cats first. but i dont know what i should do first. some people say i should get my headers and what not first, because one, ill see the most performance gains, and two, its better to do that if i decide to run long tubes. i just need your guys expert opinion cause i want to do things right the first time. _________________ gas brake dip dip |

| If you run long tubes, you wont get a cat back it will be custom. |

Do you know what kind of modification will be done to the powertrain of the car in the future? With Longtubes, I'd consider true duals with an H or X pipe and two mufflers. Generally H or X pipe helps equalize pressure which helps both banks flow pretty evenly and keeps from a lot of "popping" under hard acceleration/deceleration. If you go with Shorties, you'd probably do fine with a Y-pipe, and single inlet/outlet muffler. Headers will always be a leg up over the AIR-tubed, low flow restricted Manifolds they put on 3rd gen F-bodies.
For now, save your money, shop around, get lots of information and input and make a plan for what else your planning to do to the car and determine what will give you the most room for future modification without it (the exhaust) being your weakest link. The go out and get it done. _________________

Personally, I'd do it like this:
-Shorties (NOT Edelbrock!!!)
-High-flow cat (or delete)
-Cat back
That's just me though, and I'm crazy anyhow. |

Well, I got SLP stainless headers and an edelbrock CB. I need to replace the muffler, tho, but that's not the muffler's fault... I torqued an outlet pipe when I put in a hidden trailer hitch. _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

| I have stock exhaust manifolds (no headers), i cut my CAT off, had a pipe welded on in its place, cut off my muffler the stock single in - dual out, and put one of those 2 1/2 inlet 5 inch outlet honda racing mufflers on the end. i noticed 10 hp increase? that CAT was so clogged it was unreal.. and that muffler.. what a junker. i was wondering, if i put headers, a bigger throttle body, and a high performance intake manifold on my 91 3.1L v6 camaro, would the exhaust sound be deeper? thanks. |

Headers, yes. Intake and TB, no.
If you really want sound out of that V6, buy a real muffler. However you're limited by the simple fact that your engine is not really capable of putting out a good sound.
*Edit... hell, I changed my mind. Just do what Tony did, and save up for a V8, then sell that V6. |

| IMO, those v6's have always sounded pretty good at idle with exhaust but once you get above 2k you can tell it's a v6 and it's not pretty.... |

I have 2 1/2 catback setup on my 4th gen with a 3.8L V6 and a Flowmaster 80 series muffler.
Sounds great at Idle, like factory LS1 Z/28 exhaust. Above, just like Ian said, you can tell its only a V6. _________________
