good job man, nice progress Smile Glad to see your engine is a 350.

Does the catback and cat fit correctly for your routing? I am almost 100% sure it was.

Yeah I was able to use some of the slip fits and retain some old hangers and such before welding them solid. Things slide into place pretty well.

wow, ok i am finally done. only one accessory bracket could not be re-used. the car feels a little more powerfull now. i had to do major surgery on the plug wires... will be ordering a new set of those tonight.

CONS:
MY STEERING COLUM RUBS THE HEADERS!!!! making you fight to get the flat part past the headers then it jerks in the direction you want to go and you start over again.... NOT GOOD. i need to fix it but havbe no idea what to do. there is pretty much only one way it can go on there. i guess i am just going to hafta drive it like that until we can figure somthing out.

the whole car shudders... ALOT now. (probably from the colum being in constant contact with the headers)

other then that it is pretty cool. in hindsight 3" might be a bit to big... car rasps out on thew way down. stays solid on the way up though.

It's not too big. John's 305 with a mild cam had it fine.

I turned the wheel and didn't feel anything. Hmm.

Try unbolting the steering column from the firewall and moving it over. Sometimes there is a good deal of adjustment in there.

Maybe remove that bolt from the steering column shaft and grind down the corner that would hit?

You can always bend the pipe a little (not too much) to keep it off contact with the column.....or you could just invest in a different set of headers..... Laughing

(in other news Tony, I got the fuel pump on the fairlane done today..IN 35 MINUTES.....I so rock...so previous request for assistance on that can now be disreguarded.)

cool.

whatever you do, don't cut that bolt on the column.........you'll regret if you ever have to take that thing out and put it back in again.

I didn't mean cut the whole head off lol. Just round the corner that slides around. If you put a box end wrench on it, it should come off no problem. Provided he doesn't grind too much.

I think moving the column first would be better.

Johnny Iroc's RS did the same thing. That's what we did to make it clear. Could still take it off no problem.

i need to do some major work on the PC before i can get the soundclip. i think it is about time to re-install windows again.

it sounds like i am running straight pipes. i am realy going to need a pre-muffler or somthing.

also, the car has a problem. it seems like it is missing. under cruise at lets say 55MPH and around 1700 RPM the car will jerk once a second or so... like it has not fired. but there are no afterfires in the exhaust... none of my plug wires are melted.. one of the realy wide rubber boots on one of the 180* plug wires is resting against a header pipe, but it is not melting. and the boot is like a good 3/4ths of an inch thick. it's kinda scaring me. car feels like a piece of junk to drive because of it. do i need to adjust my timing or somthing?

i am ordering new plug wires from summit tonight. probably going to go with the 11.4 MM again. maybe the 8.xMM ones. not sure yet. but i am going to go all 90* bends so i can run them under the headers. then i am going to take the 900* spark plug boot protectors off of my v6 (i have two extra in my parts pile and put them on the V8 so that the wires are even more protected under the primaries.

also, about my vibration increase... would no engine mounts decrease this at all?

Straight pipes? With an Aerochamber muffler?

Your ear tuning is way off lol

What vibration?

Sounds like a misfire to me, in terms of the spark going somewhere else.

Makre sure the wires are on all the way. And it's really easy for spark to arc out of the plug wires especially if it's hot. It may have a crack that acts like a conduit.

hmm... i'll hafta make sure they are all on there real well. i had to cut the 180* boots down considerably to get them to clear the pipes. i am gonna order a set of cut to fit 90* wires. in fact i am going to do that right now....

ya know, there is a reason that they didn't come from the factory that way......I think a good 3" manifold back system would have done ya great. Now with headers, you will forever be under that hood....I promise! Good Luck.

Why?

The exhaust manifolds that come with these cars are awful.

I put my headers on over a year ago and have never touched them since. never had a leak and never had to retighten bolts.
