| like a year ago i got my 305 rebuilt and the mechanic im guessing was bad because 3 of my gauge didnt work (oil pressure, temp, and battery volts) they didnt work when i got it back. I found out he used old spark plugs etc. this is reason for thinking he did a bad job. Well now my tach doesnt work. any ideas about how i can go and fix this or would it be easier to take it to a shop? any help would be appreciated. thanks - Chris |

Fixing anything on these cars is easy. Just takes a little patience to learn and some determination.
What kind of car? Year?
The oil pressure gauge runs on one wire from a sending unit on the engine block.
Same with coolant.
Not sure about battery volts.
The Tach runs off a WHITE (usually cream color after the years) wire from the distributor. It could be that wire, or something in your dash all together.
Yeah, old spark plugs is pretty shitty. Where'd you take it so I know not to go there?! |

Actually the volt gauge shouldn't die. On my 3rd gen (86), it's actually run from the power buss that feeds the dash panel. There is no specific wire that supports the volt gauge.
I'm in the process of changing my idiot lights to gauges, and so far no real challenges. If you are near PDX, I'd be glad to help. _________________ 86 Camaro, L34, 700R4, 2.73 and T-top. So far it's all original.
