So guys, gotta question for you.

No matter what little town I live in there is always, ALWAYS, quite a few import enthusiasts. You know what the slow ones are called.

Anyways, since I run this muscle car and street bike car lot they come around quite often and I've become friends with a few of them.

To make a long story short, this kid with the ugliest car on Earth, seriously, so ugly it makes me balemic, wants to race me and beat my
"heavy american slug." I know I'm not fast, but do I have a chance? My ego isn't really on the line, I'm only in my car like 2500 bucks and it looks a hell of a lot better than his.

His car is a crx hatch, 91? with a new b16a, crappy looking cold air, and oh yeah, its FUGLY. He has a slipping clutch and other little swap bugs but he might have that worked out by the time we race. (his ground effects are cracked, he has chicken wire for grille mesh, altezzas, and a glass pack exhaust that is so loud)

Me, the slowmaro, 305, 109,000 miles, emissions delete, ac delete, smog pump delete, dual snorkel ram air, shift kit, (maybe gears), free flowing exhaust, timing advance....simple stuff.

Any chance? Oh, and take a gander at this masterpiece:

What do you guys think?

Its hard to say, in all reality, your car will likely run somewhere in the low-mid 16's. maybe high 15's with a good launch, fast enought to beat a stock honder, sure. Any idea what he runs?

Ohhh, and I'm sure we have a couple of heavy american slugs that would love to race him. **MRA** **schultzy** **MRA** Wink

I'm hopeful I run in the 15's at least in the high range.

And schultzy can race in my place anyday.

Now just to borrow the dads 442...

It depends on driver and just how bad his swap bugs are.

the B series motors are honda's dual overhead cam motors (I've got a mean looking ported head sitting in the garage for one right now for sale Wink ). Those CRX's are very very light. You would be a more consitant driver due to the automatic. If you get traction and a good launch you should have him off the line, and keep it. If his swap bugs arent as bad as he's saying and such, then you may be mince meat.

I know fast imports exist, and I spend a lot of my time having fun by researching what is available to them. The crx is light, almost golf cart style...

I'll just have to have fun and post my results. Either way, I paid less for my car...AND, when my motor swap comes through I'll be sitting somewhere a lot more comfy.

Thanks for the input. I really do want to waste him...

Tough call. Those B16 Vtech's don't really make any kind of significant torque until about 5200 rpm and all he has is up to 7000, so he's got less than a 2000rpm range where he's in his powerband, but the 1-2 shift, if he shifts in red keeps him right in his powerband, so he's real good off the line. Also his weight makes his need for significant torque less than your need for significant torque. He's probably a solid 1000 lbs lighter. If you had 3.73's out back and a 5 speed, I'd rule it in your favor. As much as I hate to side with the import, I think you're gonna get beat dude. just my $.02

I want you to waste him too Wink

I've always said that if I ever bought a import, it would be a CRX. Built by a competent person they can be crazy fast, and extremely streetable.

You will have the torque advantage on him, definetly.

Our cars are just as fast as the 4th gens in the 1/8th mile stock (most motors available to our cars atleast). So just race him from a dead stop (make sure to start practicing your launch before the race), and race him to something about 1/8 mile down Wink. You should have him.

I'll try my best, I appreciate all .02 cents given.

Like I said, I'm not racing for the sake of pride or anything. However...he is a NON vtec ls integra motor.

And I do know that power to weight can compensate for a whole lot.

Maybe I should buy him some KFC before the race. Wink

he's lying then if its truly a B16 or any B series motor. They all were DOHC V-tec motors. He may have a Integra LS bottom end (block, crank pistons, connecting rods, etc) a lot of people swap the dual cam heads on there. and have low 14 to low 15 sec hondas (depending on chassis its swaped into)

If its a non V-tec, you'll womp the piss out of his 17 second ride.

If he truly has a B16a or a LS block with a B series DOHC head, you're gonna get beat. In a CRX which is the lightest chassis for Vtec swaps, he doesn't need a lot of torque. Which will work to his advantage.

If he's a single cam V-tec, its gonna be close.

*correction, the Redline on the B series motors is the same, reguarless if its a 1.6 or 1.8L. His V-tech engages at 5200rpm and goes through the red at 8500rpm.

He has dual cams, but he swears its non vtec or maybe he just changed the cover, I have personally heard him bounce the rev limiter in that ugly thing and there is no vtec activation, I've actually been under the hood checking it out when he did it. I know what vtec sounds like....he doesnt have it...but he does have two cam gears on the side...

I'm confused. This was a brand new crate honda a friend of his bought and he stripped after they wrecked the car. Any idea guys?

This is getting interesting now....

If it's a swap, maybe he's got it, just no way to activate it...(no switch set up) ? Confused

Walking in the dark here...I don't know crap about hondas. Smile

Is this wrong?

The B-series Honda DOHC engines are the most popular and well known of the Honda engines. They are good performers from the factory, some models having a redline over 8,000 rpm, and accept high performance modifications well without much risk to reliability. The engine has been made in 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, and 2.0 liter variants, with and without VTEC. Later models have some minor upgrades, for instance modifications to the intake valves and ports and piston tops, and moving the dipstick away from the exhaust manifold.

Ok, damn...I'm sorry guys, I made an error.

Me being raised on chevy numbers....I was mistaken with the engine swap.

He informed me today...it is a B18a1. non vtec. not a b16a1.

Big difference in power right?

Race him. Don't let the girlfriend in the car and pee first (you need all the weight savings you can get Very Happy).

Torque is your friend Thumbs up Unfortunately I lost all mine by switching to a miniram.

LMAO. Fiero.
Those little coffin cars, I even see a few of those riced out.

Ok schultzy, I'll take your advice. Atkins for the day, take some laxatives, tell the gf to flag the race and then go race him.

I saw those specs last night and I was like, ahahahah, thats not much more than what he had before he blew up his Si motor. AND, he has the earlier motor, the 130hp.

How much power train loss does a fwd honda have? I've seen integra gsrs put down 30 less than their crank rating? Is this true for these guys?

I think I might have him now. Close, but still might be able to win.
