Who still has a car? We still have the 87. It has it's own enclosed garage now.. with a door even! lol Sold the 2nd gen, uh, must be at least 4 years ago. Didn't keep track. Moved into town during covid. So no more cows, now I have baseball fields next door.

Car has new wheels and is finally efi. Put an edelbrock proflo4 multiport kit on it. Doesn't get near the mileage the carb did though. Someday I'll build a 383 bottom for the all new top end that's on it. But it gets so few miles now, hardly seems worth it.

So, let's see how long it takes to get a reply.. or for me to check for replies.. If we haven't been in contact, let's hear what you've been up to. I've taken up a few more hobbies. Jeeping, vintage hifi equipment, vintage Atari computers, and now 3d printing. Building an RC fj40 with the printer at the moment.

I have the Formula I got in 2019, none of my old birds that made appearances at the gatherings years ago. With 4 kiddos, the modifications I dream up for the Formula are sometime in the future, but at least I got the Wonderbar and Pro 5.0 shifter so its not without some upgrades.

I would have thought the EFI upgrade would beat a carb for mileage. Think a TBI unit would beat the multiport for mileage?

Think they all can be made to do similar mileage. But right now cruising @ 14.7 on the wideband the proflo pulls down 17-18mpg. That's sequential injection as well. The carb used to do 22-25 and had a high of 30.

1988 Pontiac GTA

I sold my (formerly Jess's) GTA for way to little money near the end of the pandemic. My wife and I share a 2012 Nissan Leaf now. On the rare occasion I need to drive outside Portland we rent a car.

As for hobbies, I have been in to tabletop RPGs for a while now, I even got some Shadowrun adventures published a few years ago. I have gotten very into DIY house projects. This weekend I will be installing an electric heat pump myself to replace my gas furnace.

Yeah, if the EFI did not beat the carb are you at least making more power? My 350 TPI got 18+ in the city and 25+ on the highway with a few bolt-ons and a Twilightoptics tune that bypassed most of the emissions and ran too rich.

While I miss the GTA, the car I wish I had back was the 1986 2.8L firebird that I got rid of in 2015. If that thing had not gotten so messed up from people hitting it I think I would still be driving it.

I finally blew up the engine in the iroc in 2015, finally pulled it out 3 years ago where it still sits in the corner.

Couple years ago we were driving by a car lot and a bright yellow 6th gen camaro caught my eye. 2017 RS with the V6. Awesome car, that v6 is no joke and so comfy and nice compared to the 86. She came home with me that day.

One year later same car lot has a 2018 2SS , absolutely loaded low mile car. I had never been around a NPP (dual mode exhaust), so as soon as the lady remote started it I knew it was coming home and Ole yellow was going away

One year later we had that car up in portland and Jen was looking at marketplace and a lot out of Salem had just taken a 2020 ZL1 in. So we message the salesman and run out to look at it. Only gripe with the 2SS was the auto transmission, and this ZL1 was a 6spd. Left the 2SS there and brought the ZL1 home. Wicked car, low miles, loaded, and an absolute blast to drive.

Any plans for a new engine in the Iroc? I'm looking at doing a MAF to SD conversion in the Formula since it burns up MAFs every year and a half or so...

Nice triple post!

I would like to fix the IROC, but life is so hectic that it's way down on the list of priorities. Plus the car itself is looking pretty rough! My oldest boy is 15 and he thinks he wants to mess with it, maybe we'll find a way.

We need to revive this place, maybe get together. Jen has a coyote mustang and we want to get to a drag strip sometime

Do you think you gained or lost power with the switch?

Sounds like a great father/son project!

Totally agree on reviving this place, be fun to see.

It's different. I almost think I lost power when I put the aluminum heads on. They may be a touch too large for my combo. Compression is same but ports are bigger. I mostly switched to efi just to get an intake that actually fit the heads. I was having a hard time getting a manifold that had large enough ports, but still fit under a bird hood. The weiand barely did, but still suffered from vacuum leaks.

I still have mine! It sporadically runs though. Seem to dedicate time to all the other cars...
