I feel like this question applies to virtually every engine we could be playing with. 4-6-8 cyl, in the 6500/7000rpm redline area.
For the sake of argument the options both have the same size primary tubes. And fitment of either is a non-issue.
So which and why?
What if there is forced induction in the future? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Long tubes if properly tuned should win every time. The one thing that is assumed is the lengths have been tuned properly for the firing order, etc. You just aren't going to get the same pulse scavenging a shorty.
There is a reason that other than NHRA, almost every single top motorsport runs equal length long tube tuned headers. Even turbo drag cars at the high levels do. The only reason the nitro cars don't, is the are using the zoomy design to gain downforce because the pressure out of those pipes is high enough to push the car into the ground. |
