for LS1 98-02, there are 2 vin engine codes for 5.7 engines-8 and G..
whats the difference??

If you're talking about the change from the older style LS1 to the newer it was LS6 intake, better exhaust manifolds, different cam and lack of EGR. |

for the same year-ex. 2000 there are two 5,7 V8 LS1 vin codes.
"G" nd "8"
are they both al. block and heads?
just curious as to what the difference is-

Probably differentiating between the engine for Z28 vs SS.
If you're looking to do an engine swap then the only difference worth mentioning is the SS has a better intake (LS6) but I think they only did that in '01 and '02. The other minor differences amount to nothing in terms of performance.
Always do a cam swap and full length headers with LS1. It is cheap and a huge power gain. |
