Because 22RE.
When I got it apart the chain and sprockets were a bit worn, but the guides were complete and in decent shape. That had me scratching my head until I was putting everything back together and found this:
Looks like the pump had been eating itself for a while. So a hundred unplanned bucks later...
No more clatter on start or at cold idle!
I cheated and did ithe whole job with the head and oil pan still on the engine so we'll see how it holds up. |

| I've done a few that way.. only bit me once. LOL I almost feel bad, I'm changing a 22re right now and the old motor is sitting there in the core box with a 2 year old front cover and oil pump. |

No worries, B. I've been working over the holiday weekend and I only had Saturday to get it done and back on the road.

Yeah, the stupid thing is when I ordered the timing chain kit off Rock Auto I looked right at the oil pump (which they had for like $60) and thought "nah, it's probably fine."
I've put about 120 miles on it in two days and so far so good. It doesn't seem to leak oil in the driveway, no milkshake, an no rattling.
Still need to fix the exhaust leak in the collector gasket. |
