He has some pretty standard looking brakes on it:
Also bear in mind that he is actually 4mph short of the record set using a non-rocket bicycle:
Which they slipstreamed like so:
Some craziness nonetheless. |

Did they really need a dragster with a big engine just to keep up with the bicycle? |

That bike is insane, and he's cheating - he's almost got a stripped down motorcycle there.
Check out the chain ring on this bike. That's 104 teeth and 17 inches in diameter, no mention of the tooth count on the rear cog. On my own bike, I just went down from a 52 tooth ring to a 50 tooth ring and couldn't believe how much easier it is to push with only two less teeth - I can't imagine pushing a 104 tooth ring....
The builder has plans to crack 100mph by slipstreaming. He wont break any record until he tops 167mph. The record without slipstreaming is 83mph.

No.
But any excuse to play with a dragster is a good excuse. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

I know wind resistance is a mofo. But I cant imagine that it helps that much.
And holy crap that is a big crank gear |

It does. As Al mentioned the record while slipstreaming (167mph) is almost exactly twice the record for an unpaced bike (83mph). The record for biking on a rolling road is 242mph. |

Rolling road? Haven't heard that one. Is it like a treadmill for bikes? I never did like trainers, I like to actually move somewhere.... I've looked at trainers with rollers for both wheels connected with a chain or belt and the rider has to maintain his/her balance like actual road riding.
Similar to this...
As for the unpaced record, as far as I know, it was done on a recumbent bike with an aerodynamic fairing or enclosure. |

Pretty much:
I would imagine it gets pretty sketchy at 240mph. |

| That's Bruce Bursford's bike. His record is actually 208mph, but still darn fast. He was assisted or effectively "towed" to 100mph, then the "tow line" was released - 30 seconds later, under his own pedal power, he was at 208mph. |
