Still not an appreciable amount lighter...
They put on prelude tail lights! _________________

Still too heavy.
Waistline still way to high.
Likewise the windows are too small.
But I'm a guy driving an E30, the car with the highest ratio of window to waistline ever built. |

I think the days you could comfortably rest your arm out the window are over. Even on trucks. That's something I definately dont like. The other thing that causes these high sides is the obsession with giant wheels. Takes tall fenders to clear these and still leave enough room for average drivers to 4x over shitty roads. |

I am also a man who takes pride in his left arm tan, so I am with you 100%.
Also the blind spots are god-awful in these new cars. Worse visibility than my big Furd. |

I'll agree to that too. The stupid headrests on the back seats totally block the window anymore. |

I like the 5th gens, but they're no longer "affordable" to the average person. Even a bone stock Camaro is going to run $25k or more. I paid $15k for my 98 in 98. _________________

While I agree with your first point James, you gotta bear the inflation in mind. The starting MSRP for a basic 2013 Camaro is 23K, your 15K adjusted from 1998 is a little over 21K. The price creep is not horribly bad. |

Seriously!
I've caught myself a couple times looking at the car from across the parking lot and wondering how the fenders/hood/trunk and so low and the roof is SO TALL. _________________

I beg to differ.
MSRP of 1998 Camaro v6: $14,995 pre-tax, title and licensing.
This got you a 200hp v6, 5-speed manual and no options.
MSRP of 2013 Camaro $23,345 pre-tax, title and licensing.
This gets you a 323hp v6, 6-speed manual, limited slip rear diff, power everything, satellite radio, bluetooth, keyless entry, and much better safety.
Take $14,995 and adjust for inflation: $21,358. Almost as much as a 5thgen costs today.
So for a measly $2k more you get a car that is more powerful, more optioned-out and safer. Not such a bad deal after all. The convenience group that gave you power accessories and keyless entry on the Camaro in '98 cost... just over $2k.
Vehicle cost has largely kept up with inflation, and everything we can get in a car now is much better than the cars of 15 years ago. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

It looks a bit nicer than the current models, but I'm still not a fan. I wouldn't doubt if the Corvette group within GM dictated the tail light change as they probably felt it looked too similar. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I like it, the visibility does suck in those cars but I have you ever sat in a 4th gen and honestly say you can see the front end? or even the hood for that matter? _________________

For me personally, I view it as paying for extra things I don't necessarily need or want, such as satellite radio or blue tooth. If they permit the deletion of these options and the car came in at around 20k, that would seem reasonable with inflation. As for safety, I'm still leary of air bag technology and ABS. I just try to drive defesively and pay attention to the road instead of talking to someone on the phone. _________________

I guess I'm the weird one in the group. I love the 14 Z28.
I have driven many 5th gen's both RS and SS, even one ZL1. I won't know until I get my hands on a new Z28, but I would honestly probably prefer it over the ZL1.
I think the styling changes actually make a substantial improvement in the appearance of the car. I honestly have not ever been a huge fan of the 5th gen styling, but the Z28 looks pretty damn good. _________________ 91 Z28 |

what will be interesting to see, is what the actual weight on the new SS (aka, Holden) is compared to the Camaro. Looking at the holden info, I have a feeling they will weight about the same the SS might come in under the ZL1 and SS in weight. If they come out with a hotter version of the SS for 2015, I would not be surprised to see it actually outperform the camaro if you put similar tires on it. |
