So last time my Volvo 2.0L turbo was having misfire problems, I changed the spark plugs with some Denso Platinums and the problem went away and the car drove great - for about a week. It has been running like crap for a while now and today I changed the plugs again. This time I went with cheapo Autolite Iridiums. Again the car runs and drives like new, but for how long? I really don't wanna be changing the plugs every week. Two of the plugs I pulled looked fouled and the other two looked good. What would cause the plugs to foul so quickly? _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

How is the plug gap?
Are you sure you're putting turbo specific plugs in?
Anything can cause plugs to foul. Too strong a spark, weak spark, oil contamination, excess fuel, too cold a plug heat range, etc.
How many miles on this pig?
Fuel filter replaced ever?
I suspect maybe it's time to have the injectors cleaned. Doctor Injector does a great job and they are very reasonably priced. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

The car is fouling plugs because it is running in limp home mode.
That's what that light means on the dash.
I told you this two years ago when I last worked that car. |

Seriously? What's the check engine light code? What year is this? Come on NEWB we need more details.
Most ODB2 cars don't actually "LIMP HOME" unless it's a certain type of fault. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Hell if I know. Last time I messed with this car was two years ago. Had SES light on, smelled and felt like it was running rich, and John was complaining of fouled plugs and poor economy.
I told him this was a no-brainer and he needed to pull codes and figure it out. Then, because John Stahlman, nothing happened for a very long time and now here we are. |

The code was for a mis-fire if I remember correctly. _________________

I wish I could deny it.
The SES was for an emissions sensor that i was never able to find. I reset that code long ago and it never came back. The only other codes were for misfires. I am gonna have to bite the bullet buy the expensive Volvo plugs. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

From his text, the oil light came on, he pulled over, checked the oil and it was full, so he continued on his way and the car started smoking and died. This happened in the middle of the 520 bridge.
Maybe the oil pump went bad? _________________
