The coolant system on a fourthgen is a pressurized surge tank system with the radiator below the engine. Just by installing it in a thirdgen you're solving a lot of air pocket issues by eliminating the heads as the highest point in the system.

The only potential issue I see with running it into the water pump is that the LSx has an internal bypass inside the water pump housing due to the draw-through t-stat. Theoretically it seems if there was air in the tubes you could run it through the system until the stat opened.

All that said, my two cents are if you can get the air out of a BMW system then a Camaro is easy money. Don't worry too much about it. Razz

The spot where I drilled and tapped is right before the unimpeded return line to the top of the radiator. It's not going to circulate steam through the engine from there.

If it's tapped straight into the upper rad hose then you'll be fine. The factory steam line entered the radiator right next to the upper radiator hose anyway. Laughing

That's what I figured. Very Happy This is as close to factory as I am gonna get while not being able to return to the radiator.

Finished extending my ECU harness last night.

Also I finished my C100 harness today and battery/alternator/fusebox wiring. The end result of this is that I can now crank the LS1! It spins over and sounds healthy, now I just have to finish my relay wiring and gauge wiring tomorrow and I should be able to start it up.

I am a mix of excited and let down.

Wiring is all done. It runs and drives. All the gauges work. My heater core might be bad all of a sudden. Very odd since it's only like 5 years old and it was fine before the swap.

It runs super crappy. Revs slow, has no power, vibrates terribly. Pulls codes P0353, P0355 and P0357. 3 out of 4 coils on the driver's side apparently aren't firing. Probably all 4. Manifold is cool to the touch on that side. I am going to check coil power wiring tomorrow, I am too beat to keep working on it tonight. I bet I forgot to solder up the coil power, ground or reference for that bank. Embarassed

Here's a first start video. It didn't take much to get it fired up. I was almost expecting a little more drama. You can tell it isn't running right though. Also it was burning off a lot of stuff from the new exhaust and presumably some crud from sitting around for so long. The smoke cleared up after about 5 minutes.

Dialed in... about that...

Turns out if you forget to hook up the coilpack ground for an entire bank it runs shitty. File that under "stuff nobody would have guessed".
As I found it:

So, in essence, Very Happy Cool Burnout

It sounds much better in person. GREAT exhaust tone.

I am getting an alternator tomorrow, the bearings on mine are shot (but it still charges!). Need to put my interior back together and I am good. Smile

Sounds nice! Do you have to "trick" the cpu to run without cats?

Apparently the LS1 alternator needs more work to split the case and replace the bearings than an older alternator. Confused I don't know for sure, I just don't want to mess with it. So, new alternator with a warranty tomorrow.

Yep, mine was mail order tuned by Frost Performance. Rear O2 delete (kills the catalyst efficiency codes), EVAP system delete, AIR delete, CAGS (skip-shift) delete and VATS delete. Plus some tweaking on the other tables for more power, fan turn on speed lowered and some miscellaneous other tweaks. In the interest of not messing with it anymore, I didn't buy HPTuners and do it myself, although I could have. Also, HPT is $500 and the tune I got was $150.

With your electronic background would fare a lot better than most. You have to desolder leads to fully split the case on a CS130D. Not like an old SI where you took a couple bolts out and then tapped new bearings.
