So on sat I was messing around and trying to hook up some led lights. I was running wires to a toggle I had mounted in ashtray. The wires are underneath the gear selector housing. I must of touched a wire to another or to a bolt or something in there. The lights quit working. So I thought I blew a fuse. Nope. Blinket lights work. No seat belt works. But doesn't chime when lights left on. Lights work. Dome works. So where should I check next. |

You blew the parking light/interior light circuut. Idiot lights arent linked to the headlight switch. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

From what it read it said that tail lights should be out also. Is that true, because mine are working. |

INST LPS fuse. Should be 5amp.
Automatic cars have a lamp in the shifter powered by that circuit and that's what you shorted out.
Next time disconnect the battery for craps sake. This is why framers aren't allowed to touch wiring. |

Ya. I prob shouldn't do any wiring on my car or in clients house's. I just touch wires together untill it works |

Checked all fuses. All were good. So I must have shorted something out on the shifeter light if something. |

A lot of times fuses aren't visibly bad but can still be blown. If your dash lights don't work still, you should replace the INST LPS fuse as Aaron said earlier and see what happens. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I will do. Ya. I just gave every fuse a visible check. Can't read which one is which and none of them were 5s, so I will have to hunt out a diagram today |

Don't check fuses visibly, do a continuity test with a light or multimeter.
If you suspect upsized fuses you need to go through the entire box and make sure they are all correct.
Random fusebox diagram off TGO for reference: |

I had this backfire on me once with a multimeter because the current is so low that the burned up fuse still tested good but wouldn't pass any meaningful current in-circuit. If something is questionable, I just replace it now. I have a box of hundreds of fuses.
Loading the fuse up with a test light probably would have caught that issue though; it's all about the current. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
