66' GMC Truck
It is very Pretty and in excellent condition for this truck. Fortunately for it previous owner had the inside of the tailgate and other important areas tarred to keep rust off. Theres a bit of surface rust here and there but nothing bad.
One Issue is that there is no motor or transmission in it, and someone tore apart the instrument panel.
I do have a motor for it, with no manifold. I need help with one thing. Whoever had the motor shaved the suffix code off it and stamped it with FUS. I have no idea what this means. The blocks case number ran as a 305 thats all the info i got so far. I also have a transmission for it Im assuming its a turbo 400 (which the are two of), With no Torque Converter. I plan on replacing the wood truck bed with new wood.
Any advice out there for a first timer.

Looks like a decent start for a project.

Easy to tell. The TH400 pan has a lot of angles and curves. The TH350 has a square pan with one angled corner.
Is there any rust in the corners of the hood, bottoms of the doors, or inside the cab corners? |

In the second picture you can see some surface rust on the hood. thats really all the rust there is besides a few spots about the size of a half dollor but its all surface. The inside and bottom of the doors were tarred, so no rust there.
Me and my dad are replacing heads right now in a 67 3/4 Heavy (1 ton rear). Just got back from Pick N Pull near JBLM with the heads. its a super sleeper. 307 4.11 running gear. Looks like hell but very reliable. |

Make sure you get the correct motor mounts to fit a SBC. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

If it was a "305" it was probably the GMC 305 V6.

Paul's right, make sure you have the correct motor mounts for a small block Chevrolet engine, if that's the direction you're going. |

The original motor was a V6, not a clue what the size was. The motor I got is a V8. Just like my 82 Pontiac. I just need to know what the hell FUS means for a suffix, the thing was restamped. Its up in the air for me. And don't worry i've thought about the mounts.
The 305 (5.0) is only temp since it hasn't been torn apart. I plan on rebuilding a 4blot main 350. It came with the truck, in pieces. The head has a serious rust problem(no idea if they can be saved). The crank and Block look nice(minor surface rust), no pistons or rods though. |

If you are interested I have a set of fairly recently rebuilt iron heads for a 350. They are GM casting 462624 and I have been trying to get rid of them for $40.
Looks like a great start to a project! I look forward to seeing how this turns out. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

| That would be very helpful. I found out that the 350 is a crate motor from 1992. |

Nice! Hopefully it's ready to go for roller lifters, or will just take a little machining for them. And it's a one-piece rear main seal which is good too.
Let me know if you want those heads and we can coordinate. I drive through Tacoma fairly regularly so if you're interested I can drop them off sometime. They had new valves, guides and seals put in about 4 years ago and were cleaned/checked at the same time and had a 3-angle valve job. They are fully assembled ready to bolt on and have rockers, and I have a set of stock pushrods too that you can have. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

| Its been a while, very little progress has been made since the 5.0 had rust on the cylinder walls and piston #8 was shattered and piston #7 looked like a gnarly cheese grater fight. I have a rebuilt motor incoming, should be here within a week. But for those who are curious about the trucks condition here ya go. I got a feeling i'll need a bigger master cylinder. |

Single pot master is fine until the day it isn't, and then you die.
I have run them before but would probably not do it again. |

I will keep quiet about my bias against Edelbrock carbs.
What cam and heads? How high are you spinning it?
My experience with the Performer intake is that it falls off pretty fast on the high end. |

Unless someone else mentions that they are running an Edelbrock, in which case I have no doubt you will make your opinion known! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6
