				| i was looking into getting the cheap racing seats from oreillys just cause i dont really like the seats i have now and i was wondering how much modification is required to fit them in the car _________________

				| None. Just weld up some brackets for the sliders that come with them or drill new holes in your factory sliders and sit up too high. _________________

				| Would hardly consider "drill new holes" or "do some welding" to count as "none" in terms of modification...
There was a thread on tgo about this not long ago and I asked basically the same question. Based on the response there and my own measuring, the seat is too wide to be useful...

We own thirdgens. This is about as "bolt-in" as it gets. I admit, 'None' may not have been the best initial word but in the grand scheme, if drilling four holes is too much, then I'm sure there are a few crewbies that wouldn't mind lending a drilling hand for a beer or two.

They've been pretty useful for me for that last 8 years or so.
I think Al Hasse purchased an eerily similar set from NAPA a couple years back that made their way into (I believe?) Gabe's car and I'm not sure where they went after that. _________________

This is correct, they were in my car before that. I am 6'1" and needed to lean pretty far back to not have my head hit the roof. Ian didn't have that problem.

I bought mine from Al and then sold them to John for his Berli.

This could be arranged. I don't hit GH too often though. I'll text you when I figure out some free time.

Nope! They're clearly far too wide and those pictures are 'shopped!

The TGO thread was http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/interior/642824-oreillys-racing-seats.html .

Just goes to show that I shouldn't listen to threads on TGO, I guess... Thanks for the info, I might have to look into these more seriously now. Are they comfortable? How do they hold up? For a hardtop, what do you do about the shoulder belt?

				| TGO = morons. Quite often we do things they claim are "impossible."
My experience with those seats is limited to being a passenger, but I found them rather uncomfortable.

 Just my two cents.

				| They are uncomfortable but they hold you in corners a ton better than the stock seats. After about a 45 minute drive with them I'd be pretty sore.
The shoulder belt is not a problem, you can't put them through anywhere but let's face it, the seat loops on most thirdgens are long gone anyway.

				| Funny, I've always felt they were much more comfortable that factory seats. I've done plenty of road trips in them (utah, cali, canada, oregon, idaho) and I've always felt they were great.
The padding is starting to break down now, but for the bargain it's hard to beat.

 :lol From TGO;

The 'summit' branded seats are almost exactly identical as the o'reillys chairs. And Schultzy has the tan summit ones in his GTA.

Maybe it's because you and I have very different body types. I find the stock seats comfy but greatly lacking in support. I want a set of GTA seats in charcoal cloth, now those are about perfect.

				| I too have been a passenger when Al had them in his 89, and at least on one occasion, I've sat in Ian's passenger seat in the bird. Didn't find them uncomfortable, per-se, but I felt like I was sitting really low, compared to a stock seat. | |

Really? It felt the opposite to me. Every aftermarket seat I've ever sat in has always felt higher than stock. Of course, it all comes down to the brackets.

				| I'm going to have to agree with the GTA seat comment up there! I've had a few sets of 4th gen seats over the years and sat in both worn out and rebuilt 3rd gen seats. I have NEVER sat in a seat so comfortable and "tight" feeling as the Ultimas in my new GTA. _________________
