3rd pump, still squeals. The belt is plenty tight, belt doesn't have any frays or anything like it's broken, pulley is just fine. Has some wear marks but nothing that should make it slip. Brand new fluid. Even did it with the last pump and royal purple fluid.

Anyone have any ideas on what this might be?

What kind of squeal? Fluid level is good? Hard to turn the steering wheel?

Is the pulley in same plane as the other pulleys? A misaligned pulley will cause belt squeal.

How narrow is the belt? They can wear down so that they bottom out in the pulley instead of riding on the sides. Then they just slip and squeel.

That is if its a v-belt.

If its a whine and not a squeel you could have air in the pump or the pump is just not broke in yet too. They'll make some noise for 500miles or so.

Actually.. a serp belt can do the same thing as a v-belt. Gates sent me a guage for measuring the depth of the ribs to make sure the belt isnt worn out. The belt can look fine but be bottoming out on the ribs.

Bad line or box can cause the pump to squeal as well.

Chevymad got it. I decided yesterday to change the belt. When I had taken it off in the past I looked at it for frays or breaks in the belt, but not wear. This time when I looked at it I could almost see my reflection. So, went and go a slightly smaller belt, and viola. Steers easy as cake. Gotta say, I should've looked at it before, but hey, new pump. It was really embarrassing going places and starting up the car, getting looks, like damn, then go to drive away and hear the most ear piercing, take-a-sweet-car-to-piece-of-shizzle, sound ever. Next problem is fixing the throttle response issue..

try having your starter over run and get locked in, or your t5 sound like a helicopter is taking off under your car lol
