And notbfrom beans. Anyway it has bugged me for a while but now that I am driving more I need to get to the bottom of it. Are there typical spots on these cars, and if so what's the solutions. It smell when standing next to it on either side. So hard tovoin point where. It may be leaking out. Again hard to tell cause we live in Pacific Northwest and ground is always wet. But it is something I really want to take care of because my kids also ride in car and I don't want them inhaling fumes. |

Evap system.
Does the tank suck in when you pop the cap after driving? |

No and no sshhhh sound when I open either. And I have no evaporated system anymore so what do I need to do to rememdy situation. I checked smell when I put in gas and didn't smell anything in front fender well, but did in rear. Also really stinky in car, and now that I have new seals put in it is way worse. Before I had so much ventilation from no t top seals that it was bearable. Now it makes me sick and loopy. |

What did you do to vent the tank in lieu of the factory evap? |

Cracked fillerneck is a possibility. As far as vent, all I have is a hose hooked to metal line under Hood snaking under car, but no stank up front. I also have return line in my mechanical pump hooked up. |

Cracked neck is easy to check for. Shine a torch down the underside of the filler neck to where it meets the tank and look for a wet spot. |

Take a lighter and probe around til you hear a loud WHOOOSH and your eyebrows fall off... That will show you where your leak is..

Anyways as far as filler neck. Should I drive itcfor awhile first to let fumes build up? Ans if filler, is there a fix? |

If you suspect the neck is leaking you would ideally check it right after you fill up.
The filler neck can be epoxied with varying chances of success. It can brazed by a radiator shop but it is cost prohibitive. Replacement is the easier option IMO. |

My tank was replaced because of a filler neck that didn't seal to the cap. Even with the ratchet in the cap disabled (epoxy is wonderful stuff ), fuel leaked by when the tank was full - check the stain on the car below the fuel door in the link Aaron provided. _________________ 92 Camaro

I shall put a couple gallons in tomorrow and check for leaks. It just stinks so bad. I need to do something ASAP before I kill my kids brain cells. |

IF you suspect a leak you get under the car and look with a battery powered flashlight.
OR it's your evap system since you've got all kinds of hokey pokey under the hood. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I will now have to wait to check for leaks. Hard to find when whole underneath is wet. But it always smells. Not just after driving like some peoples. All the time. So if it a leak. What type of epoxy. Just some standards set pac? |

You go to the parts store and get something that's fuel tank friendly and follow the directions VERY closely, for a fuel tank repair. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Another question just so I can try and eleminate evap. Would evaporated smell under Hood because it really only smells in rear. But it is bad. Can smell from several feet away. Also should the filler neck have a lot of movement. I can jiggle mine arould quite a bit. |

This seems like a key piece of information, doesn't it? |
