Finally have made some progress tonight on my Cessna 182 RC kit. I've had the wings, vertcal and horizontal stabs and control surfaces assembled for quite a while now.
I don't have an engine or radio for it yet. I ordered one while I was in the Navy but they lost it for me. I'm thinking of going with a .91 t stroke and 6 channel radio but I don't know what ones to go with. I don't know if it might be better to get a radio with more channels to control the landing, navigation, and strobe lights. |

I have to have something to do when the weather sucks.
I really don't know much about RC at all, I just like building things and airplanes. |

Ah yes, airplane. I am building one that is larger than R/C, but I have a slew of those too.
I would definitely go with more than 6 channel and 2.4
A .91 or 1.2 four stroke would be a nice fit. Even a 24CC gas might even be cool. Either way you have to keep the pictures coming, I have always liked the kit, but never seen one completed before.

The engine I bought originally was a 1.20 Four-stoke but was lost in shipping by the Navy. I might like the 2 stroke better just because it fits inside the cowl without having to cut a hole for the cylinder head. The servos I have so far are for the flaps and ailerons I think are Futaba.
The 2.4 I take it is the freq band? Is there a big difference in functionality between AM and FM? or spread spectrum?
It wasn't until I got the wings together how huge the thing is. It's wings measure 81" from the wingtips. Even wtih the wings off I don't know if I'll be able to fit the thing in the Firebird.
I don't have much experience flying these things either but there is an 'airfield' near here and I'm sure I can get help from them. Anyways if I crash it I'll definately put it on youtube.
It seems no matter how hard I try I can't keep from getting that CA glue on my fingers. |

| Took a couple of pictures this morning. I hadn't looked at the wing in awhile but apparently one day when our kitten snuck into the rom I keep it in he chewed off one of the servo leads. |

| those are cool. after watching a show on them, that is another hobby my wife wont let me have. after hearing about guys who dump 10 to 30k into each plane she stopped any thought I had of getting into planes |

There is no difference functionally between AM FM or 2.4 GHZ from the operators point of view, the difference is in the reliability, and basically the difference between 1970s tech and the latest high tech. AM and FM, think of your car radio, AM stations tend to give better range, but there is more interference, bad on R/C. FM has a clear and strong signal, but at a reduced range but we're talking about a mile VS. 1.5 miles. . .still more than enough. 2.4 is something that I have not used, but I know that AM and FM gives you 40 channels to work with, if someone is on yours while you are flying, you are plucked. 2.4 eliminates this. It scans the air for an open channel (not sure how it works functionally) and selects an open channel. There are no longer frequency issues, and the odds of getting any type of RF interference is eliminated. This includes the interference that can come from a gas engine and their ignition sources. Basically all the problems and short comings are taken care of.
81 inch wings? they don't come apart? anyway they may fit if you lay the seat down flat, I have stuffed three planes in the 60 inch range. . .
Fingernail polish remover/acetone works great on CA. 
BTW, any club will tell you to get a trainer, if you decide to go that route, I can hook you up. I have a few and need to cull the herd a little. Set up and ready to go Radio engine and all for a heck of a deal if interested.
JC, Tell your wife that while it is possible to spend as much as you want (30G?? what a bunch of cheapskates.) you can get in the air for under 300 with some shopping around.
