So i've been fighting with my megashifter since almost day one.. Got it used from Schultz, and though he said it worked fine for him it's always been a bit stiff to operate.
Well lately its gotten really really bad. As in, when you're finally able to jerk it out of park it sounds like you just ripped the console clean out of the car. Nearly need 2 hands bad.
I tried re-routing the cable and even squirting some lube into it to no avail. So I ordered up a replacement cable this last week. Installed it today. While I was at it I replaced the indicator cable that I busted long ago as well. Now they both work sweet.. Shifts are so easy I thought I forgot the cotter pin and the cable fell off the trans or something. Like butter..
Here's where the lying butt dyno comes in. Now that the shifter moves so easily the mind plays tricks. Makes me think the car is moving easier as well! Now I know that aint true, but it's such a funny feeling. I know how much an actual performance part might trick the mind into thinking you're going faster.
Oh.. and after comparing the old cable with the new one, looks like the weather seals on the tranny end of the old cable rotted and fell off sometime. The exterior end of the cable was quite rusty too so I can imagine what it might be like on the inside. |

It has to be more then the butt dyno effect. Perhaps the trans wasnt fully in gear with the old cable? Anyway.. it definatly seems to move "free-er" then before.

Well .. probably.. but I did have to shift it down 2 extra gears at times to get it to the right one. No telling where the trans actually was.

Haha, my stock shifter was doing that before I swapped in the mega shifter originally. Its amazing how much better they feel when they shift when you want!

Definatly was stretching. Sometimes it would select the right gear, but alot of times you'd have to ratchet it down til you felt it go into gear then back up to the OD selection.
