I've been looking around, but what are the best from experience shocks/struts for our cars? I'm really tired of the crappy ride. Hit one bump it feels like my damn fenders are gonna fall off. And this is more in my price range. Except the ultra expensive Koni's.. I was looking at...
Edit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KYB-KG5562/ and the equivilent for the fronts.
or buck up the extra $130 to get these? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KYB-743019/ |

Hmm, I've always thought of Koni's as the cheapest of the good stuff...
And I have KYB's on my car. They were "OK" at best at stock ride height, and now that I've lowered my camaro they're pretty much shot. I will be getting Koni yellow's next. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

| Well I would love to know which koni's fit because i only saw 3 on summit with my parameters and they were way expensive. I don't really want to spend more than like 400. At max |

I have koni adjust on the front, with thouse kyb adjust on the rear. Both are doing just fine.
I had kyb non-adjust on the rear. While if you have never had adjustible shocks, they work just fine. But once you have adjust.... they just dont compare. |

...for all 4? You're going to be hard pressed to find anything decent. You're first post stated that you were looking for the best. In that price range you're looking at the bottom of the barrel stuff. But like I said, KYB's aren't too bad as stock replacements. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

Alright, I have stock shocks that have never been changed since I've owned the car. But I also want to change all the bushings. What would be a good price for decent shocks? Because it's like $800 for set of Koni Yellow's. That's definitely out of my price range right now. The shocks aren't shot, but I wanted a nicer ride. I guess I should just save up for the Koni Yellows? Or is there an almost as good set for cheaper?
Edit: Who has used KYB AGX shocks/struts? and how did you like them? |

| Kyb are a good shock for the price. They will be a huge improvement over what you have |

If you're poor just say you're poor and people can give you better advice.
I ran KYB GR2's on the IROC and on The Bananer. About $160 for the set of four off of Summit. They are better than the sh**ty Monroe or Gabriel or parts store brand. |

GR2s are good basic replacements. Comparable quality to OEM, maybe even a little better. Aaron's right, much better than the parts store stuff.
My budget vehicle, the Subaru, has GR2s. The Camaro has Konis. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

For what its worth, my camaro has kyb's. I'm pretty happy with them.
Keep in mind, this group is one of the biggest suspension minded guru's on the interwebs. So when asking for advise they all want to spend $10K so their cars will pull 5 G's on the skidpad.
If on a budget, get a set of KYB's, replace stock worn out bushings, find a set of iroc/ws6 sway bars and springs. It won't win you road races, but it makes carving corners way better that your average honda. The next big upgrade would be subframe connectors, and maybe bigger brakes.
Biggest thing, just have fun with it!

| Lol. Yeah I'm pretty much poor. I have iroc sway bars. No idea what kind of springs. So i think for the time being, I'll get some gr2's and replace all my old bushings with poly's. I don't race the car. I just want it to look sweet and ride nice. Someday when I have nothing better to spend my money on I'll get koni's. Brakes are definitely on the list. Still rockin rear drums. Lol |

What year rear end? If it's a pre-89, you'll want to upgrade to the aluminum caliper disc - mine was from a 1983 Trans Am, and the cast iron caliper brakes sucked. _________________ 92 Camaro

| I'm not sure whatyear. Still have to find one but chances are it will be pre 89. Are the brakes just a straight swap to upgrade? |

| As long as both disc setups came from either 10 bolt or both from 9 bolt rear end. 9 bolt axle flanges are different than 10 bolt flanges. You need to pull the axles to remove and install backing plates, which means opening the differential. |

What are people having against the cast iron Delco's?
One of the first things I did when I bought my IROC was replacing them, but after that they worked great the whole time I owned the car. |

| I didn't have so much trouble with the brakes themselves, they worked fine. The parking brake is what never worked for me. |

| The parking brake on those is a screw-down style and has to be used religiously or it will not be able to compensate for pad wear. I used it all the time and it never gave me trouble. |

I have 9-bolt with iron and 10-bolt with aluminum. With an adjustable prop valve its no big deal. But the aluminums can be found on lots of junk yard 4th gens, plus the rotors are 1" bigger and the calipers dont rust. I dont have the park brake hooked up cause i swapped back to 3rd gen ebrake handle and didnt have the axle cables. _________________ E30
