So I recently was embarrased with one of my rocker arms popping off the valve and pushrod due to me not torqueing the lock correctly. Anyways while I had the valve covers off I decided to re-set the lifter preload. Comp specs .030 +/- .010 preload or 1/2-3/4 turns. After setting them all I found that many of the rockers have some play to them. Not towards the pushrod or valve but side to side. Is this a sign of the rocker arms being worn out? I don't know what a worn one would look like. They make a bit of noise, not as loud as when there is no preload applied.
If it turns out they are bad I was wondering if goign to 1.6 ratio arms would be advantageous. I'm running a Comp 08-501-8 and Trick Flow heads. Compression ratio around 10.5:1.
I was very careful finding zero lash and watched the pushrods as I set the preload and could see them move as the preload was applied. |

Many years ago, the manual for atleast the v6 said 1.5 turns after preload. But then there was no info saying what "preload" was.
I later got preload was just up-down movement, where I thought it was drag when spinning pushroad.
I would say you just dont have enough on it. Last time I did mine, I still had some side-side movement. But no rattle. |

1/4-1/2 should be all your need. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |
