|
|
Whats up i just finished installing my Hooker Headers and Y pipe onto my L03 and its running really strange. I bought new wires and custom made all the plugs. After firing it up I noticed it was stuttering and almost choking when you get on the gas. I sawed off the AIR system(?) that runs from the cat to the smog pump and left the smog **** off. I found that i cracked 2 spark plugs and i replaced them and at first thought it fixed the problem but it didnt.. Maybe i bumped the distributer out of whack when i changed the plugs(late now cant check)? But the weird thing is it only starts running shitty when the car and exhaust warms up.. Was I not supposed to delete the little metal line and hose that runs from the cat up(thought it was emissions)? Its also not arching which is why I'm sure its not any of the wires. I ran WinALDL and didnt see any error codes besides the oxygen sensor but it was reading .459 O2. I did drill the hole and tightened the sensor in good.. Any suggestions?
Could the tune be that out of whack |

| If that is the only mod, I doubt it. The headers will lean things out a hair at WOT, but that is about it. I suggest going over everything and double checking all your connections, and make sure that everything is where it needs to be. |

i have heard of similar issues when people do not use a heated 02 sensor after installing headers. that being said I have headers and the single wire o2 and do not have this problem, though i am planning on installing a heated o2 anyway.
when you deleted the AIR system (smog pump, tubes etc) you did seal off the tube coming from the CAT right? i would look around to see if you unhooked any vacuum lines during your install. the CCC cars are more picky then some about vacuum lines. check the one going to your vacuum module for the distributor as well. it should be near the dizzy, probably on the passenger side and have a 4-6 wire connector going to it, and one vacuum line. without it your car will not know how much spark advance to run, this could cause the problems you are describing once the car warms up. at least it did on my MPFI car. i think the CCC cars use the same thing for figuring spark advance, but it has been a while since i have seen one in stock form.
good luck.
EDIT**
ninja'd. i guess i baisicaly just typed a super long version of what Dewey said. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

Maybe a silly mistake, are your plug wires plugged back in the right order? i remember someone once forgot to plug one back in this could cause the motor to stutter.

I'd recheck all the plugs and the firing order and that all the wires are snapped down tight.
Then I'd check that all my electrical was safely away from the exhaust.
Then I'd check vacuum lines from having things disconnected.
Then I'd make sure my O2 was in, secure, and sealing. Might even replace it. |

ya actually i have this same problem...yet to figure it out tho. mine kinda stutters when i barely give it gas. all of this started after i took out all the smog pump and air tubes and intalled my headers...i think it may have something to do with the emissions stuff cuz thats when my started actin funky....it really pisses me off. _________________ gas brake dip dip |

| For the price of the non-heated O2 sensors, it's not worth messing with. Just buy a new one... or two. A spare is always good. |

I've been waiting four and a half years to see if the problem has been fixed. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

Holy necro topic, flea!
You've been waiting four years for a guy from Cincinnati to admit he screwed up the firing order? |

Eh.
Slow news day.
Actually I was looking at the member list and saw a guy in Ohio that only had one thing to say. So I thought I'd read it, and being the necro I am... _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |
