Speaking of fords breaking stuff...

If you don't go used and happen to look at new (Yeah, yeah, I know that's not likely to happen), There is Rightway Spring in downtown T-town that will bend you up any leaf spring, any rate for any app.

Will they do that for $20 apiece? Pokey pokey

The issue is finding a 3/4HD or 1 ton in the yards that's not rusted or frozen up with dirt and age, or already had the springs pulled.

Well getting rear springs for the truck has turned into a real fuster cluck and I don't want to talk about it, so back to the Camaro!

Radiator

These are the two radiators I have for this project. The lower unit is a factory V8 radiator, the upper is an aftermarket aluminum piece of unknown origin. As you can see the stocker has a 1" core, and the aftermarket is 1 3/4" so I would prefer to use it, but there are some issues.


First, the outlets are stupid. I believe the angled weld was done after the fact. It worked okay for them, but will not work at all on a car with a wonder bar so the outlet bung will have to be repositioned and rewelded.


Secondly, the larger core offers less room in front for intercooler-ish goodness. 2 1/2" here:


...vs. a full 3" with the stocker:


And of course the outlets are in the correct position with the stocker:


Both of the coolant outlets on the 3800 are on the driver's side which creates another issue since either radiator will require one of the hoses to be about three feet long.

I'm curious if you guys think I will see enough of a benefit with the considerably wider aftermarket rad to make the trouble of fitting it worthwhile.


Brake lines

This is where I stand on those:


I am ditching the stupid stock valve. I have a Wilwood adjustable prop valve that I think I am going to mount on the t-top bar just to piss everyone off. Cool

I'm guessing that I will need some sort of y-block to split the line to the fronts, and then some sort of adapter to run the rear line into the master? Don't have a lot of experience with brakes since I never built a car to stop before. Laughing

Clutch

Hydraulic TOB ftmfw:


Not pictured was my completion of the the infamous drill mod on the line. There was definitely a choke point in the line. Out of curiosity I dropped drill bits down the line before I removed the choke and found that GM in their infinite wisdom had gotten the line down to 1/16th of an inch. Laughing

Aftermarket rad: One long line will most likely not be an issue. As far as size, is it a dual or triple core radiator? I just run a stocker on mine and have no problems, but meh. I would make the aftermarket work any way that I could just to take advantage of the extra surface area and the metal endtanks. Don't wanna handicap your car with a lame rad. It might not be an issue, but do you want to find that out later or build it correctly the first time? Intercooler size will not be an issue, you can change and fabricate that support bar you know. Wink These cars have a country mile of room for an intercooler in front of the rad if you're willing to do a bit of cutting and welding... Twisted Evil

Just remember; line locks have multiple outputs so you don't technically need another Tee. Very Happy

Stocker is single, aluminum is dual.

I can move the support out at the bottom, or it occured to me last night that I could just move the intercooler up. The hood support comes out at an angle as it goes upwards so an intercooler that is vertically shorter can be proportionally wider while sitting in the same space.

Excuses

Finished some stuff on the Ford, fixed the toe-out issue caused by lowering it. You should ttry driving down I-5 in the rain in a 4x4 with the front tires pointed away from each other. Rolling Eyes

Then I decided to do something about the clutch in the Z. Since I bought it the clutch had engaged low and it was getting worse. Lately it would barely go into gear with the pedal mashed to the floor. Slave cylinder travel was within spec so I pulled it all apart (which was nothing but fun due to many fantastic engineering decisions! Bashy Bashy )


That looks like kind of a problem...

First thing I did when the banana made it back indoors was to install everyone's favorite mirrors: Wink

Clutch




That whole setup is beat. Flywheel needs a new insert and the disk needs pucks replaced but I'm gonna use it to mock up and maybe even to get it running.

Hydro TOB

I loathe the very existance of this thing as I know it's just sitting there plotting how it's going to ruin my life. Evil or Very Mad


It started by making it a bish to install the T5 since you can't install the bell first. Regardless I've done enough 700's to know how to deal with that. Fourth gen T5 sits about 1/2" to 3/4" back vs. the thirdgen unit. Note the mount at extreme end of the crossmember slot. Not a big issue, though. Stock mount and crossmember are going away soon enough.



Shifter sits a bit back too. No biggie.


It's back in the shop, so there's more to come!

Umm... if you're texting my old 224 number it doesn't work anymore. Embarassed

No piktars today, just a brief update. Bleeding the clutch was shockingly painless because I caved and picked up a MityVac. That thing works fantastic. Did not even need to go under the car or touch the pedal. Very Happy

I shone a torch up through the inspection hole and saw that the TOB is depressing the pressure plate tangs past parallel. I had my roommate work the pedal while I laid under the car spinning the driveshaft and found that the clutch grabs about halfway up.
